It is one thing to have a problem and know that you have one because you begin to source solutions to that problem, but it becomes dangerous for you to have a problem and not know that you have one.
As humans, we all have our character flaws, sometimes known to us and sometimes unknown to us but always noticeable by people around us.
Sometimes for the sake of love, people around us tell us about this character, but sometimes out of fear for the temperament of certain persons, people around them never tell them about their character flaws.
Character, in my definition, are habits that we have developed from repeatedly doing something over and over. Scientists say whatever you do repeatedly for 21 days becomes a character, and some characters can be exhibited knowingly or unknowingly.
This week's hive naija prompt really got me thinking, and after reading quite a number of contents, I discovered that there are some of these characters that I exhibit myself. Don't judge me now. 😎 no one is perfect, but the beauty of life is that change is constant.
Two characters that I exhibit
Firstly taking things with levity, so this is a testament that most times I tend to leave things to chance, and this has really affected me personally and in business, which is the area where it has affected me the most as a gadget technician and as an event decorator. Many times I have people call me to make inquiries about certain faults in their gadgets or to discuss an event decoration.
After discussing, I usually leave them to decide, forgetting that they may have talked to some other technicians or decorators. Now, sometimes when I finally come face to face with some of these people, they say one guy that I talked to kept asking me, so when I wanted to fix the gadget, I called them.
I always wonder why that happens, and I discovered that people often remember those who always talk to them about certain issues more than people who occasionally do the reason why I miss some of those jobs, even though sometimes their prices are higher than mine and I would have done a better job, which means people always remember what you talk to them about.
And secondly is procrastination. This has made me do something at the dying minute, like I am now when this prompt will end in a few hours. Sometimes this is as a result of overthinking situations and trying to weigh my options, but then I have realized that if you fail at a thing that you start early, you have a chance to make amends early as well as someone who starts late.
Procrastination almost made me lose a job one time as the client asked me to find out the price of a certain decoration accessory. I was only able to get the job because that client has seen my work and trusted that I will deliver no matter what.
One of the dangers of procrastination is that it keeps you in your comfort zone, and of course staying in your comfort zone
Call to action
I have decided to always be in the faces of my customers more because people remember what they see, and also to guide again procrastination, I have learned to set achievable goals and follow them.
If you have other means I can get better, let me know in the comments section.
