So, I had to take matters into my own hands today concerning the place I would work in order to serve my dear country. The Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme is actually stressing me out and I just really want to rant about it. If I knew that this was the frustration I was going to face, I would have gotten more prepared than I did. I had a masterplan and the masterplan shockingly failed, lol, I should have actually prepared Plan A to like Plan G😩😂.
Everything is stressful in this country, I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact the system isn't doing anything to make things easy for us, corps members. The ministry I was posted to after camp told me they were not recruiting corpers at the moment and NYSC didn't even have that information. To even get rejected by them to process another primary place of assignment was another issue again. They were telling me to go from one office to another just for a signature and a stamp, I was so frustrated that day.
I found another primary place of assignment through the influence of my uncle and I was the happiest person alive on the morning I got a new PPA letter. It was when I visited the person's office I realized that I had used my own hands to impicate myself, lol. I got carried away by happiness and I didn't bother asking the man for the job details before I agreed to be reposted there. This cost me tears from my beautiful eyes on the day I reported to the office to have my letter signed. I realized that I was to come to work from Monday to Saturday, excluding a day of the week where we have to report for one NYSC activity.
As if that were not enough, the work hours is from 8am to 6pm. I cried so much that day because I thought I was stuck there and had no escape. I constantly tried to imagine how my life would be like for the next 10 months if I had that kind of work life. I wrote about this recently when I came across a relatable topic.
However, I texted the owner of that office today and I also explained the situation of things to my uncle since he is the bridge between us. It was hard to do but then, I just tried to summon up the courage because I wouldn't let shyness ruin my life for the next couple of months. Honestly, if I take that kind of job, I will have to pend so many things that I am doing at the particular moment and I really do not want to do that. It would even be as if I am pausing my life for a while because obviously, that job would eat up most of my time and I would barely have time for something else.
I decided to settle for teaching and I went in search of available schools today. At least, schools will close before 3 and I will also have access to holidays! I had to just go out today in search of an available school that my spirit will resonate with. End result? I found! Not even one,but two. I just hope it all works out well from here. Teaching is not really my forte but then, I will just take it as a personal challenge.
