THE ABILITY OF SAYING AN HARMLESS NO

in Hive Naija2 months ago

The act of saying "NO" is something many should always learn to do. The truth is, I also find it hard to say no to people in most cases too. Which has had a way of affecting me. There was this time when I was invited to play at a concert in Lagos.

On this very day, I was already having a whole lot of tight schedules on my desk already, but then there was this boss of mine that has in one way or another impacted my musical career. He needed my help to help him cover up at a concert.

He could not go there because he had 5 places to be at at the same time, and the time frame had a way of clashing. He really wanted to attend all of the concert and play for the time frame he will be needed there, but then his hands were tied already, and he had no choice but to ask for my help in covering up for him.

On this particular day, I was not in Lagos, and I literally had to help him cover up. I was informed late at first, and I also had limited time to meet up with the appointed time. Instead of me declining the offer to help, I was carried away by the loyalty I have for him.

Firstly, the pay wasn't really worth the stress I was going to have to go through before getting to the venue, and secondly, it was more like me wasting my energy and time. And that's because I wasn't even done with what I came to do outside my state.

I was supposed to decline the offer, but I was feeling bad because he has helped in one way or another in pushing my musical career. So I really wanted to use that time to show how much I appreciate all he has done for me and all of that.

I was literally expecting to get there before the time given. But then, on my way to the park, I saw someone who offered to give me a ride to lagos from where I was at that point. It was someone I knew so much, so I hopped in and decided to join him on his way to Lagos too.

Instead of me declining the offer, I was thinking about the money I will be getting to save and also the stress I'll have to go through if I am to go with a random car. I ended up making the wrong decision by agreeing to follow him.

Because he eventually made me miss the concert, and the person that referred me mainly wasn't really happy with me because he counted on me, and then I ended up disappointing him.

I wasn't also happy with myself because I really don't like it when I can't keep to my words. I could have easily declined it by saying a harmless no. It would have even been better for both parties. But after then, I got to learn my lesson and have ever seen then say no to whatever I can't do.

Thank you for taking the time to go through my post. I hope you were able to learn something from it. This post was inspired by the #inleo community and also serves as my entry to the #OctoberInleo prompt Day 14.

Yeah we should know our limits and what we can’t do. What we can’t take. Saying no can always reduce a lot of stress for us

Yeah it really does help in reducing a lot of stress
