Brain On DND.

in Hive Naijalast month

I still remember one fateful day when I had to write my post, but instead of typing, I just kept staring at my friend over my laptop. She was sitting right in front of me, and I was lost in thought, trying to gather the words in my head into something readable. She noticed and asked why I was staring at her, and I said, "Don't move, I'm getting inspiration."

"From my face?"

I know. I know.

I haven't always been a writer, but I've been writing long enough to know that 'Writers Block' is a real thing. For some days, it comes leaving my brain in a blank state. Like the state of my brain telling me "I'm on a DND right now so don't bother me, or yourself". No matter how much I want to think of something to write, nothing comes to mind. Then there are days where, I already have something in mind to write about, but articulation left the chat. Having so many thoughts in mind is one thing, getting those thoughts down to convey exactly what I think or feel is another and probably the harder part.

And the thing is, the more I try to force out the words, the more frustrated I become, because it doesn't actually work that way. Apparently, thinking a lot is a bit of hard work on its own. After much hisses and sighs, I decide to let my brain rest. And here's what it does to me, after taking a nap or completely taking my mind off writing. Probably engage in some other real life activities, I come back and my thoughts become more composed. I would write a line and when I read it again, I'm like "Oh wow, I didn't even think of this before".

A little bit of good distraction really helps me deal with my writer's block. I would leave my room and go outside to stay for a while, watch the kids playing in the street, catch some fresh air or any other thing that would distract me for a while. In some cases, I might decide to listen to cool music and even see a movie. It happens that I might coincidentally gain some insights from what I watched and there you have it, a completed post.

Iron sharpens iron. More times than I opt for a good distraction while dealing with writer's block, I enjoy reading from what other people have written already. It's my very powerful inspiration boost. And thankfully, we have a thousand and one times ten thousand creative writer here on Hive and it's such a blessing, because on days when it seems like my brain is no longer, the next thing? Let me check if so,so and so have written something today . After reading and interacting with a few people on a post they've written, I become more inclined to write my own.

I love to write more relatable things on days where I feel like my brain is chilling somewhere outside my head. Possibly share a personal experience or my view on a situation. It can be anything, but as long as it's something I relate to, then it comes off easy.I get better flow of words and I have problem in articulation, everything's in order.

Honestly, I really appreciate all the communities that are very consistent with their daily, weekly or monthly prompts just Inleo. You can check out their topics for the month of March and see what you can make out of it. If prompts won't help you deal with writer's block, I wonder what will. Almost everyday, I scan through communities that give out prompts and that's the easiest way I stay quite at arm's length with writer's block.

Anyway, I didn't want to mention this but food is a source of good inspiration for me. I am no scientist but this theory of mine has been tested and proven over time. I might spend so much time thinking of how to go over the 50 words I have written, then I decide to eat. The rest is history, my words flow like a river. Bottom line is, just don't write on empty stomach so that when your words don't flow, you'll know it's not because you're hungry. Like I mentioned earlier, check out the Inleo monthly prompts and for today, tell us how you deal with your writer's block. We would definitely love to read from you.

Till next time,Peeps🌚
