To really live, we must have an adequate and realistic self-image that we can live with. However, many of us tend to create a self-image for ourselves either in a positive way or in a negative way. This, thus generates the two questions: who do you think you are, and how do you perceive yourself?

Many of us are victims of the rules we live by. We see ourselves as fucked up and criticise ourselves for past mistakes, errors and circumstances. As a result of this, feelings of inferiority originates in our minds because of our conclusions regarding facts, and our evaluation of experiences. We see ourselves as not good enough, unlovable, or unworthy, and we try to run away from something we have decided to go through with, all because of feelings of incompetence, inadequacy or lack of confidence.

Nevertheless, there is a sense in which we can get more living out of life and be free from the bondages of self sabotage if we are really ready for a change. These changes, although may seem small and unimportant at first, will compound into remarkable results if we are willing to stick with them. They include: practising self love, practicing belief in oneself, disregarding the act of comparing yourself with another, and having a vision.

The first thing to note is that you are the only you there is and will ever be. Therefore, love yourself and be grateful for who you are. See yourself as more worthy and find yourself acceptable to you. Love yourself for having a big head, small nose, and tiny body. Don't conceive yourself as weird and ugly, but rather, see yourself as created in the image of God. Practicing self love helps to develop a more and adequate self-image as you create a mental picture of yourself as uniquely different and awesomely made.

Also, great living starts with a simple belief in one's own uniqueness as a human being. Since we create our realities through our thoughts, it is therefore important to nurture positive beliefs and thoughts about ourselves. Practice the act of daily affirming positive words about yourself. Push past your current limitations, reach for the extraordinary, believe in it and go do it.

Moreover, disregard the act of comparing yourself with others. You as a personality is not in competition with any other personality. So, stop measuring yourself against others standards and be yourself. Do your thing and love you for who and what you are. Also, if you find yourself preoccupied with a certain friendship or relationship that is making you addicted to the feeling of being less than, you need to gradually phase out of it. The most important thing to do is to work on yourself, then convince your subject that he does not measure up.

Finally, to overcome low self-esteem and build a unique self-identity, you need to envision who you want to be. Vision is simply a matter of how you see yourself in the future, who you want to be and what you stand for. Develop a vision of emulating good habits and effectively building on them. This vision will get you inspired and also serve as a catalyst that ignites your potential.

Thus, overcoming self-esteem and building a unique self image requires you to redesign your life in line with positive changes. Continuously edit your beliefs and uncover your true purpose for being. In all, love yourself for who you are and be your best self.
