Christmas is my favourite season of the year, the festivities associated with it is something I love so much. Everything within that period literally screams Christmas ๐ ๐. The merrimements, happiness and celebrations it comes with makes it special. Our Naija Christmas celebration is always a sight to behold.
I love my country because we always know how to celebrate Christmas in a unique way. From the beautiful dresses worn on that day, to the beautiful hairs both braided and weavons or wigs worn by females to the nice haircut worn by men. Then talk about the food, that one is always a blast. From the well cooked party jollof rice, to the well garnished fried rice eaten with coleslaw or salad to the various indigenous soups and swallows prepared by people from various tribes such as Afang Soup paired with Eba, to Fisherman Soup also eaten with Eba or Semovita or even Wheat etc. Infact the list of our local foods prepared and eaten that day is endless.
Christmas celebration in my family is always an example of a typical Naija family Christmas. 2024 Christmas celebration wasn't an exception, the only difference was that rather than spending the holiday in my family house in Port Harcourt, I traveled to a new city (Lagos State) where I spent the Christmas with my sisters and it was fun as usual.
Christmas day started with I and my sisters waking up and getting ready for Christmas church service. On our return from the service, preparations started in full gear. We prepared a nice sumptuous Party jollof rice and grilled fish. In the spirit of Christmas we ensured we prepared a large quantity and shared it to our neighbours and security man. Everyone who ate it kept thanking us and commenting on how sweet it was, at that moment I was so proud of my sisters and I ๐.
The day progressed with my older sister taking us out in the evening to a fancy restaurant where we had an amazing meal, the food was so nice, it tasted so good that I finished every bit of it ๐. That day I ate a lot till I was filled. After eating we stayed back enjoying the ambience of the restaurant, while gisting, laughing and just reminiscing on how the year has been for each and everyone of us.
While we were still seated in the restaurant we noticed that there was a small crowd gathered outside , just behind the restaurant we where in, they were seated listening to a live band entertaining the crowd. The band played selected songs of famous indigenous music legends like those of King Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu, and a host of other musicians. The band thrilled the audience so well that just few minutes into their performance, a large number of the audience stood up and danced to the rhythm of the songs. Seeing what was going on from inside my sisters and I decided to go and join the crowd outside, we immediately paid our bills and left the restaurant. Immediately we got to where the show was happening we found a table with chairs to sit on and joined the crowd to enjoy the band performance. I really enjoyed the entire music performance and with time, I also stood up and started dancing.
After the show ended, we ordered a taxi home. Indeed 2024 Christmas day was a memorable one for me, which I wouldn't forget in a short while. I had so much fun and enjoyed every bit of the moment.
