Online Learning; Advantageous or Not

in Hive Naija3 months ago (edited)

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. I hope you all are having a great week; as for me, it has been a very busy week; and I haven't really had a lot of time, but it's fine; it's almost the weekend, so we can have all the rest that we desire.

Have you ever learned anything online before? How did it feel like learning it?

As for me, I've learned a lot online, especially from YouTube; that platform is a wealth of DIY knowledge.

The positives of learning things online. Share recipes, hacks, lessons, or any knowledge you learned for the first from social media or someone online.

Learning online has its positive and negative parts. As with almost everything, there are always a disadvantage and advantages to a phenomenon but the major aim of this post is to look at the positive parts of learning online.

Advantages of Online Learning

Flexibility
When I think about learning online, the first thing that comes to mind is the flexibility it offers. With online learning, there's no need to hurry out and try to get to the learning venue, beat traffic, or run late now you can do it right from the comfort of your home (your bed, if possible). You can learn at your own pace, which means the learning process can be adjusted to suit your schedule, making it a win-win situation for you.

Cost Effectiveness
With online learning, many costs can be cut; firstly, there's the cost of transportation that can be averted, cost of materials and so many others that have to be available if you are learning in real time.
Online courses are usually cheaper than conventional in-person classes, as they require a little less logistics for this kind of learning.

Variety
One very interesting thing about online learning is that there are varieties of things to learn from, more like there's a pool of knowledge, and it is at little cost, and it can be done from the comfort of your home at your own pace. You just have to decide on what you intend to learn. This is one very cool advantage that online learning has to offer.

Improved Self Discipline and Self Motivation
If you intend to embark on an online learning journey, you have to develop self-discipline and motivation because as much as there is comfort and ease, if you don't develop these attributes of self-discipline, you can also kiss goodbye to what you intend to learn. I don't know if you categorize this as an advantage or disadvantage, but I thought I should mention it. It does help you build self-discipline and motivation.

*The Very First Recipe I Learned Online

Source

While I was undergoing my NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) far away from home, I was watching YouTube a lot during that period, so I decided to learn how to make a street snack out of boredom and for the fun of it. So the snack I decided to learn is called 'puff puff' over here. It could be likened to a bun.

So I began my search for videos that taught how to make this snack, and finally, I stumbled upon one video; the lady's name, or rather the name of her channel, is Sisi Yemmie TV. She gave a really detailed step-by-step instruction on how to make puff puff. By the time I was done watching it, I was pumped and decided to buy the ingredients the next day and make my very own puff puff with the video as a guide.
By the next on my way back from work, I got the necessary ingredients and embarked on my journey to puff puff making; when I was done, it came out nice, but one mistake I made was frying it on high heat, which made it look almost burnt. But I encouraged myself that it was the first time, the next time would be better.

Here is the recipe for the ingredients that was used

2 1/2 cups warm water
2 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
1/2 cup sugar for non sweet & full cup for sweet puff puff
1 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Teaspoon vanilla essence
1 Teaspoon Nutmeg /cinnamon powder

Sisi Yemmie has been one of the food content creators I have followed over the years for interesting Nigerian recipes, you can also check her out here

I'm also a testament to learning from YouTube. From cooking recipes to sewing techniques. I'm really grateful for the app and the creators on there.
Thank you very much for sharing this with us. It's good to see you've learnt quite a lot from YouTube

Online learning is good but has its limits
But it's really beneficial for those who need to work and then still school.

Yeah, it does have its limits and also its benefits as well.

I think the advantages overweigh the disadvantages. A person like me I only learn how to drive my sewing machine and most of my clothes cuttings are videos I watch online. You really tried to be explicit enough. weldone sis.

Thank you. Yeah, I also think the advantages are enormous even though there are disadvantages.

You are welcome.

YouTube is my go-to online school 😅. I've learned so much from that app won't lie. The advantages of learning online definitely outweighs the disadvantages of learning online. #dreemport

YouTube is my go-to online school.

It's also mine, I've also learned a lot.

It's funny how so many of us have graduated from YouTube without certification and we are doing amazingly well 😂
Thank God for who created that platform
No matter the disadvantages, advantages are topping.

I always say that the things I’ve learned from YouTube over the years can’t be compared to what I learned in the university( just kidding, before someone forwards this my lecturer)😂

I'm a huge fan of learning from YouTube and you're right about self discipline. A lot of things could distract you from learning what you intend to learn.

I follow a lot of chefs on YouTube but haven't come across this Sisi Yemmie TV, will check her blog out.

Yes, a lot could distract you, you could even run low on motivation set, but that's where self discipline and self motivation comes in.
