The last time I traveled was 2023. That year was just filled with many traveling experiences. I had to travel from Owerri to Calabar and then from Owerri to Enugu.I enjoyed every bit of it.
I was excited about the change of environment, though I was scared. I didn't know anyone over there and didn't even have a place to stay.
I went for internship exams for the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. The plan was to make a friend over there and stay in one of the hostels for the night of the exams. It was risky, but I didn't have any other choice. The lady who I had in mind who was going to take me in travelled within that period, so it was difficult; nevertheless, I still enjoyed the trip.
My first time going to Calabar, and it was a 7-hour journey from Owerri. At some point I got tired of sitting in one place, but luckily for me, I didn't have anyone sitting close to me, so I had the freedom to change position, sleep, and all that, but I was too excited to sleep.
My mouth was moving almost every hour, and I took pictures and even made videos on my way. I enjoyed my trip so much, even though after the exams I didn't get a placement in the hospital. It was an experience to change environment, try food, and others. I thought of exploring, like visiting Obudu Cattle Ranch for sightseeing, but the location was far from where I stayed, and I needed to head back the next day.
I wished I stayed longer; the weather was perfect, and the language barrier was difficult, but then I wanted to stay longer to explore, meet new people, and all of that, but time wasn't on my side.Furthermore, I didn't stay at the hostel. I happened to have a family friend who stayed over there, and I was lucky that they took me in. She lived close to the water, and I just wanted to explore.
I'm someone that loves trying new things, exploring, and the like. I thought of coming back using a flying boat, but the stories I heard about traveling with water made me have second thoughts.
Coming back was even more stressful; I spent a lot of time on hold, and it took almost forever for me to get to Owerri. I thought that would change my mind about traveling again, but still I traveled again for the second time to the Calabar internship exam in the Navy hospital. I was amazed at how neat the hospital was; this wasn't the common hospital where you perceived bleach and the likes of it.
Everything was so organized, the environment neat 24/7, and their internship quarters blew my mind away, and I prayed so hard for me to get my internship placement at Navy, but I wasn't lucky enough to be selected.
I once watched the sunrise from the veranda of the quarters, so calm and peaceful. Calabar is a place I will love to visit again, and this time I will explore more.
