Hello everyone!
Okay, yesterday, I got a message from a female friend I met in school years back. She was asking if going for NYSC is the same as getting an exemption letter because she does not think she can go through the NYSC process. I answered her and asked further what she wanted to use the certificate for because she once told me she was into business and not ready to go into employment drama once she graduated (she has finished school though). I was totally surprised because suddenly, she wants the certificate to start job hunting again.
Okay, that is what I really want to point at. Before now, I believed so much in the "graduate from school and get employed" thing. You know, in school, most of us went through school with the mindset of graduating and landing a good job. Even most of the students currently in school—that is what they have in mind. Before I go further, I remember many times we were advised during some of the practical lectures in school to get into business with our skills instead of waiting for a job to come when we finally graduate.
So yeah, my perspective changed a lot about this "after school, get employed" thing. You may say I am saying this because job hunting did not favor me. Well, that may be true, but even before I got into the small-scale business I am doing today, I worked with a series of companies, I got employed but hey, none of those were satisfying and I had no time of my own.
No doubt, there are high-paying jobs in Nigeria, especially in the oil sector and medical field, but for most of them, one needs a high level of connection to secure. You may say God is the highest of all connections, so you do not need any human to depend on. Well, that might work out, but you must play your cards well before you get to that stage.
Currently, the easy jobs that fresh graduates can land are jobs with mere pay, which appears satisfying for a beginner, but in the long run, they will start hunting for another one again. Oh yeah, I have a female friend who actually introduced me to LinkedIn, got a job then, but recently started moving from state to state to secure a bigger one. Sometimes, whenever we are talking, I always get marveled at her job-hunting grace and traveling grace as well because those transportations take a lot of money too.
I just feel like the job hunting thing is not worth it at all especially how oftentimes we end up with jobs that the salaries are just for survival sake. The only considerable condition is when the pay is worth it and allows personal time too.
I wish it was possible for everyone to set up a business and become a firm owner instead of hunting for jobs—life would be very good. Who will be employed to do the work since I am not in support of employment? Well, let us employ aliens.😎
Thanks for reading.
