JUST A HOMEBODY

Indoor One thing about me is that I enjoy my own solitude. In fact, after spending quite a bit of time outdoors, I often find myself longing for a bit of time alone to recharge. Basically, I’m more of an introvert. I don’t understand how so many people find being indoors boring. Sure, it can be boring sometimes, but personally, most of the time it isn’t.

I think I’ve just gotten used to being indoors so much that it feels normal to me. Right from my childhood, I have always spent time indoors or helping at my mom’s shop. Apart from unavoidable activities, like school, running errands, going to church, and helping my mom at her shop, you’ll barely find me outside. At this point, the difference between me and the furniture at home is very little. Hehe…

I try to avoid stress as much as possible, and being outdoors just seems stressful to me. Sure, being outside can be fun and exciting at times, but I also need that indoor time to recharge. For me, being outdoors is like a challenge, while my comfort zone is indoors.

There are so many things I enjoy about being indoors. First, there’s the less stress and comfort that comes with it. Outdoors, I often feel overwhelmed. I mean it literally—it’s rare that I step outside and come back without a headache and feeling drained. The constant hustle and bustle of Lagos, in particular, really takes its toll on me.

Being indoors means I don’t have to deal with or inhale fumes and dust, or standing and walking under the blazing sun. I can avoid the chaos of traffic and the unnecessary drama that can sometimes follow. Indoors, I kind of have control over my environment. The noise stays outside, and I can set up an atmosphere that helps me feel comfortable.

Apart from being energy-conserving, it’s also just more comfortable. I’m someone who struggles with figuring out what to wear, but I never have to worry about that indoors. I can comfortably lounge in an old t-shirt and shorts, my hair can be messy, and I don’t have to care about any of it.

Also, I deeply value my personal space. When I’m indoors, I can easily set boundaries when I don’t want to be bothered or distracted. I can just enjoy my own company and savour the silence and privacy. I’m also much more productive when I’m indoors.

People might find being indoors boring, but I don’t. Besides enjoying my own company, I have so many enjoyable things to do indoors. I love watching anime and movies, watching YouTube vlogs, scrolling on social media, reading ebooks, listening to music or podcasts, chatting with friends… and all these are done on my phone.

And in case my phone dies or I’m not in the mood for tech. Well, I read hard books, study (school work), learn, crochet, cook, eat, and even organise my space, I also reflect, and journal. There is always something to do.

Sincerely, outdoors can be fun, but it’s just not my thing. That said, I’m challenging myself to go out more next year.

At the end of the day, while being indoors may seem boring to some, it’s my peace and my space. It’s where I feel most at home, where I can relax, be myself, and recharge for whatever the world throws at me next.
