It is already more than half of the first month of 2025 and many of us have gone back to our regular life and schedule after enjoying the little break during the holidays. The holiday spirit and mood is different and relaxing and sometimes it can be uncomfortable to switch to regular work mode.
For me, yeah, it is school mode. My university has resumed from the holiday since January 6 and to be honest, it was quite hard to switch from the relaxing and flexible schedule to a more rigid one. I couldn’t even bring myself to resume until January 8, I needed more break lol, but sadly I had no choice.
So, how do I switched to my school life routine? The thing is your brain tend to know when you have no choice and when you don’t. Personally, when it was time to resume—although it took me two days before resuming—but my brain naturally knew that was “resumption time” and it worked towards.
But even though, you (your brain) are aware, it can be sometimes hard to switch from the relaxing holiday season. There are some few things that made me get back to my regular school life. I am a big alarm person.
My brain is simply used to alarm, especially when they are set around a particular time. Switching to my regular life, means switching my alarm schedule. For the holiday period, my alarm rings at 6:40a.m, sometimes I even sleep in till like 8:00 a.m but for my school mode, my alarm rings by 5:10 a.m, where I use about 5 minutes is for me to roll around in bed while I find the strength to stand up.
Basically, changing my alarm schedule switched my mode. I mean, I wouldn’t want to wake up by 5:25 a.m in a holiday season. I am more of a morning person, my morning mode gives me the energy I carry throughout the day.
Also, try to look at the positive aspect of resuming school—even work, is it meeting your friends, colleagues and people around school or work that gives you a little excitement? Is there a particular place or eatery that you can look forward to? And also, you look at the negative aspect of the holiday.
Yeah. It might sound ridiculous. For me, I look at positive aspect of going to school: My coursemate and friend I enjoy taking to, a particular lecture I enjoy so much, my favorite spot in the university, and those things keeps me a little motivated.
I also look at the negative aspect of the holiday. Since I am the last born of my family. I tend to look at the house chores I have to do at particular time and I can’t choose to do them at my convenience. The errands I run for my family and stuffs like that.
Personally, a clear space gives me a clear head and make things easier. I like to organise and refresh myself for school . I try to organise my phone apps, my PDFs, and my books. I also have my school materials and stuffs organised and planned ahead, so I won’t feel rushed or overwhelmed.
These are the ways I switched from my holiday mode to my school/regular life mode.
