Sweet Mother,
I no go forget you,
For the suffer wey you suffer for me yeah
If you were born and brought up in Nigeria you would definitely have heard or sang this song by the indigenous Cameroonian- Nigerian, Prince Nico Mbarga.
Sweet Mother (listen here)
I was thinking about what my next write-up will be focused on and while a lot of ideas came to my mind, I wasn't really satisfied with the topics.
Then I got a call from one of the most important people in my life. You guessed right, My Mother! π©βπ§
The call lasted for 15 minutes, this is about the average time we spend talking on most occasions.
Sometimes we can go up to 1 hour. We get up to this duration whenever we are catching up on Zee World Drama series.

My mother is a lover of Zee world and as serious as I am, I also fell in love with some of the series because of her.
I think those guys over-elongate their series a bit too muchππ. Lol.
The African vibe in us sometimes wants to enter into the television and do some action whenever we see them acting slowly. Lol.
Back to my thoughts.

After I dropped the call, the idea came that I could write about her.
This would make me appreciate her for all she has done and make me grateful that she's still alive.
So I decided to write this piece. I hope you enjoy it as you readπ
My Mother, "Mummy", as I fondly call her is a middle-aged woman. She would be marking her Diamond Jubilee next year.
Source
She hails from the Ancient Benin Kingdom in Nigeria.
A culture rich in the African indigenous craftsmen in bronze, brass and wood sculpturing.
Tall, dark, womanly and beautiful. You can understand why she caught the attention of My Father 30 years ago.
I remember when we were growing up how she told me of her aspirations to study Medicine but I guess life had other plans for her and she had a teenage pregnancy.
I'm glad she didn't abort the baby because I've got the best big sis in the world because of that.
Looking back I cannot but respect, honour and appreciate my mother for her resilience, dedication and commitment to seeing that all her children completed their education and in flying colours.
There was never a time when I felt unloved and uncared for even with the little we had.
When I was in secondary school and I told her I would like to study medicine, it was like a dream come true for her. It was then she told me that she once aspired to be a doctor but it didn't happen.
This only gave me more hope and courage to focus on that dream too and I'm glad its a reality today.
Dear Mother,
You have been through thick and thin and now its time to enjoy the fruits of the seeds you've sown over the years.
Thank you for the sleepless nights you had when I was a baby, all to ensure that the little girl was fine.
Thank you for the silent and open prayers you declared to ensure that I turned out well.
I can't remember a time when you pick up a cane to flog me all through my years of growing up as a child.
But thank you for the strong corrections that realigned me when I was about missing it, especially those π eye and facial gestures like every African mother would do without saying a word.
Nne Oma (good mother)
Iye nogie (great mother)
To love you is an understatement.
Just like that woman shouted in Luke 11:27,
I bless that womb that bore me, and the breasts that I sucked from.
Most people wait till a person passes on before they pay a tribute to them, but I choose to pay mine now while you're still here, when you can see, hear and read.
It's not your birthday mummy, but I choose to celebrate you today, because you are one in a million!
Thank you for being a faithful wife to daddy and A loving mother to your children.
Thank you for staying strong even with all the things life has thrown at you.
Great shall be your peace and your joy shall know no end.
I remember while growing up how I woke up in the middle of the night at about 3am.
I brought out a White A4 sized paper and wrote with a marker on it the inscription "best mum and dad in the world".
After writing it, I went to their door and pasted it on their door with a cello tape.
That still holds true today, you're the best Mum in the world.
Thank you for everything mother.
May you live long to enjoy the fruits of your Labour. Amen
Thank you for reading my blog today
