Once a Home Girl, Always a Home Girl πŸ˜…

in Hive Naija β€’ 5 days ago (edited)

We've had a lot about Christmas in these past daysπŸ˜„ so I was glad that there was a other prompt that was away from anything related to Christmas.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Christmas holiday season but the whole festivities is something I don't totally enjoy and that's probably why I chose to write on the second prompt instead.

Like my title stresses it, I am a "home girlie"

And like the saying goes, "once a soldier, always a soldier."

According to the American Psychology Association, "Personality refers to the enduring characteristics and behavior that comprise a person's unique adjustment to life, including major traits, interests, drives, values, self-concept, abilities, and emotional patterns."

Hence, it is not something that one can just decide one day to change immediately.

In fact it took years to form so it's not that easy to change.

Growing up I used to be a very studious child, I would be with my math textbook and solve questions.

Source

In one of my previous posts, I talked about how it was difficult for my parents to pay my school fees on most times so my only option to not miss out on schooling was to self-study.

So I began to find interest in just being alone and studying math. Weird right!
I remember it got to a point that I could go on without eating from morning till evening and I wouldn't even feel it.

Was I addicted to maths?πŸ€”

As much as your personality is largely determined by genetics 🧬, I have experienced and therefore I strongly believe that your environment and the experiences you have has a lot of impact on your personality.

In my case, I grew up as the popular "Omo get inside" kind of child.

This is a phrase used for those children whose parents don't even allow them step outside of their house gate to say hello to even a bird flying πŸ˜„

Source

Our entire world growing up as kids revolved around our rooms, parlour, toilet, bathroom and kitchen.

Then we went to school, church, and my mum's place of business.

There was no opportunity to play in the compound with other kids talking less of playing In the street.

I don't know if this was a good thing, but I think it helped my siblings and I to bond together and enjoy the company of ourselves.

Source

I pride myself as the most funny amongst my siblings so I remember I used to engage them and give them many funny gists. Lol.

To let you in further on how my childhood went, I remember vividly how a classmate came all the way to my house on a Saturday morning just to collect my school note.

We all have that one student in class whose note saves the day especially when exams are close.
Fortunately or unfortunately, I was that student πŸ˜‚

And I carried it up till university. I had a lot of my course mates even tag me as the stenographer of the class.

One of my strengths is writing very fast hence no matter how fast the teachers dictated, I picked it up and hence I almost always had complete notes.

Back to my story of my classmate visiting unannounced.

Source
I must stress that he was a male classmate.

For every child of an African mother, you know what is about to happen if a boy comes to your house looking for you πŸ˜‚

That morning, as with most Saturdays in our house, I was busy cleaning the room with my other siblings then I heard a knock at the door and guess who went to check the person at the door.

You guessed right! My MumπŸ˜‚
She asked him who he was looking for and for what reason.
I'm sure he probably stuttered as he responded.

Anyways, as you would expect, I had a whole lecture on ensuring that I steer clear of boys.

Come to think of it, πŸ˜‚ it's possible that boy was stalking me, how did he get to know my house?
I never gave him my house address.

Anyways, my mind didn't comprehend it as stalking then.

So back to my thoughts on being a home girlie, I digressed just to let you see how my personality of being an indoor person came to being.

I would rather be at home than attend a party.
By the time I became a teenager and got into secondary school and university, I had conversations around this with some friends.

I had friends who were always amazed that I enjoyed being indoors.
I remember one asking me genuinely with so much passion in her voice, "so what do you do when you don't go out?"

I looked at her and smiled ☺️, knowing that that's my forte.
Some of my responses to her is what I will share with you here.

I love Music.
Being an indoor person, I channeled my energy to doing music related activities.

I did normal things like singing and dancing, playing the recorder, and not so normal things like using my mouth to play the drums.

I don't know if you got that right, I used my mouth to play the drums. Yes!

I could make a different drum sounds and beats with my mouth but if you gave me a drum stick I would not be able to replicate itπŸ˜‚

I spent my time studying too as I mentioned earlier.

I loved meditating.
Being born into a Christian home, I was constantly reminded on the need for a close relationship with God so when I made a personal decision to be a follower of Christ, I spent time in meditation and quietness.

In these times, I would usually have my journal with me and I would journal thoughts that comes to mind as I read my bible too.

This is me being vulnerable now.

Growing up I had my own fair share of some of the struggles young people face.

Mine was pornography and masturbation.
I cannot remember how I stumbled upon a romantic scene in a Nigerian movie and I noticed that my thoughts were beginning to be filled with such thoughts.

With my inquisitive mind, I resorted to searching online and before I knew it I found myself searching for pornography

I am so glad that I was able to open up to a spiritual leader when I discovered I was getting addicted to it and it helped me to overcome it.

Now I know better

(This photo is mine)

My best part of being indoors now is that it gives me time for myself.
Being a medical doctor, I do a lot of engagement with people during work hours so I cherish those moments of being alone.

It affords me the time to rest, watch a comedy movie, πŸ˜€ meditate, Cook and Chill.
I am also able to read personal development books, or watch and listen to personal development videos and podcasts asides listen to sermons for my spiritual growth.

Once in a while I crave parties but it's just for the smokey Jollof πŸ˜‚
Lol. That's on a lighter note

Thank you for reading my post.

Ahhhh
A boy came to look for you?
Chimo
The boy won put you for trouble.

Well, I wasn't a omo get inside girl

But I grew up to enjoy my indoor moments.

I think my parents allowing us to freely play outside without accepting for us to go for holiday camp helped me stabilise my social life.

Anyways, you grew up to be amazing and love cool things.

Nice one dear

Thank you sis.

Yeah thank God I grew up to be amazing.

That boy that came looking for me self ehn
Thank God for God.

By Monday in school he definitely received the warning of his lifeπŸ˜‚

What a sweet read!

I could make a different drum sounds and beats with my mouth but if you gave me a drum stick I would not be able to replicate itπŸ˜‚

How about dancing all styles in your head but when it comes to dancing for real, you won't even be able to carry your leg to do the exact steps in your brain. Hahaha πŸ˜€

I am also an indoor person and it was as a result of how I was brought up just like you. My parents never gave room for boys to be around us and till now, I don't go out except it gets to the extreme where I have no choice but to step out. When I am indoors, my phone is my companion plus watching movies, listening to music and reading too. At least finding things to keep me busy and not bored too much.

That dancing own too dey.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

But I still try to dance once in a while.

If not for one of my aunt's that scolded me for dancing at a children's party, I should have probably progressed in dancing career πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Thank you forr reading and sharing your thoughts too.

Being a home girlie could sometimes make you look innocent in appearance but I put it to you that indoor people can be very cunning and plot coup πŸ˜‚
Anyways, that was just to pull your legs. Indoor guys are usually well behaved and calm. Though, some of them could be a thing to handle due to individual differences.

No lies o.
Indoor people can be very mischievous πŸ˜‚

Thank goodness πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ I have heard that over and again.......but it may no be the same for all of them.

True though.

Thank you so much for reading and engaging my post.

Concerning guys visiting your house, I relate a lot to that cause my parents would do more than talk to you. Glad those days are over, lol. I love all your indoor activities. Thanks for sharing!
