Possessing a sensitive smelling sense is a blessing,I have learned to embrace more and live with it instead of being agitated about it. I literally can perceive any scent right from a considerable distance except for food.
You might want to ask, "Why the exclusion of food?"I will say that the pleasant aroma of food often sends a signal to my brain, making my mouth water and heightening a desire to taste out of the delicious meal, thereby creating a craving.
So, imagine if I had to satisfy all of my cravings in a day just because of my great sense of smell, I'll definitely need to break the bank to keep up.
Also, the reason why I stopped sniffing food as the first task to do before digging into any food was that most people find it unhygienic, but is it?
On the other hand, odious smells effortlessly overwhelm my senses, and the way I have repeatedly reacted in response to them made me vow to avoid places, people, or events that would trigger, but that hasn't been an easy thing to do.
For instance, the highways lie refuse dumps that had long been inhabited there, making it its new territory.
The sewer along the street is stricken with urine, poo, and anything that shouldn't catch the eye.
Unfortunately, some people have adapted to the foul smell of the environment and their odor reflects it.
Frankly speaking, this is the sad reality of certain areas in Nigeria often regarded as "Ghetto or Trenches.
In the same vein, some people smell unpleasant because of their lackadaisical attitude towards body care or hygiene and there are also category of people who we shouldn't lay too much of blame on them because of their body smell- some people grew up with a bad body odour due to lack of adequate body care when they were still babies and clearly, such condition is hard to revert when many years have passed.
The question now is, how do I handle people who smell terrible around me and how do I ensure to smell nice?
Honestly, I do not think there's a less offensive manner to tell someone about how horrible they smell, no matter how polite you try to sound while addressing it. Most people will take offense to it, and the outcome of how they respond is totally unpredictable.
So, to be on the safer side, I don't cross the line with strangers, but with my "people" I mean the people around me, Here is how I approach them:
- Sometimes, I'm blunt about it; I say it plainly in black and white as it is while also advising them to pay attention to their body odor.
We all have a distinct body smell, but when proper body care is not taken, that's when it becomes " body odor". - Other times, I'll take a subtler approach to convey my concerns by buying body deodorant such as body perfume, body spray, body mist, body wash body cream, or body soap as a gift for them.
How do I make sure to smell nice?
There's nothing out of the ordinary I do to ensure I smell good, but shall we go over them?
- I take my bath properly early in the morning and when I return from work at dusk.
- I properly apply body perfume, spray, and oil in the appropriate areas.
- I go for lightweight wears during hot weather to prevent getting drenched by sweat.
- I Ensure there's good ventilation wherever I am.
