My beloved country Nigeria is a nation blessed with the gift of intellectual people and numerous natural resources that we all can use for the betterment of our lives and also help others with. I believe with what the Divine has blessed us with, I don't think Nigerians should be part of those people that are supposed to be in need of anything because we have almost all things at our disposal.
But lo and behold the reverse is the case, all sectors are not functioning as expected and the most annoying aspect is that the corrupt politicians are only fighting for their pockets and this has led to the paralysis of every sector in Nigeria including security.
Several years ago, there were some particular areas in the country that are known for calmness, those places are so secured that people from displaced areas usually run to them for shelter while some places are marked as danger zones because of how criminal activities are on rampage over there and the government really worked hard that time to restore peace to such places.
But nowadays everywhere is not safe anymore, criminal activities can happen anytime and anywhere without the police or military interference.
1st February 2024 was a black Friday filled with sorrow for me and my entire hometown when some gun men invaded my community and gunned down the king of my village right inside his palace, all because of his refusal to stand up and follow his abductors. As you all can see, both the rural and the urban areas aren't free of any sort of crime.
Terrorism, kidnapping, killing and destruction of lives and properties are now the new norms in Nigeria. There is fear in the land, all citizens are not free again to live their lives in peace that's why everyone is doing their best to safeguard their lives and properties in their own little way or better still look for greener pasture outside Nigeria.
The government has failed her people and everybody in the country is just finding means of survival by themselves. The rate of insecurities is so alarming that every nook and cranny of the country is filled up with criminals who operate at their own convenience without bothering about the security agents.
It's only in Nigeria that you will see that criminals have assault rifles and gadgets more than the security officers that are managed by the government. Did we even have functioning security agencies? Those security personnel are slaves in the hands of politicians who dance to their tunes whenever they like.
For now, my country isn't safe for both her citizens and tourists. The government has not gotten any solution to the alarming rate of crimes and this has led to loss of lives and crumbling of some many businesses.
But I believe what can curb crimes is when we have a functioning system:
- that has the love of her citizens at heart by striving for their survival and also create jobs for the growing population
- that glorifies educational projects above entertainment projects
- that preaches peace & love and not hatred or tribalism
- that organizes National orientation programs to enlightened people on the need to work smart and hard
