It's a blessing to feel at home once more and drop a blog in one of my favorite communities and the faces I am familiar with here. Inleo wants to know if I made any friends in the year 2024, and yes, I didn't just make any friends; they are people of inestimable value who came across my life and impacted me in so many ways.
To share this friendship adventure with us, I would like to state that I am very selective of my associations, as they matter a lot. It seems like I am even more selective with friends compared to my food. I would gladly eat anything, especially on occasions when I do not have a choice, but with friendship, I must always pick a stand. Better to be alone than go be with the wrong company or association; I learned that the hard way.
If ever anyone will be accepted as my friend, that must have played a positive role in my life. They must have interest in my careers and ambitions, and I must equally do the same for them. Either in cash or in kind, we must be willing to stand in the gap for each other.
Such were the kind of friends I made in the previous year. Sometimes we do not need as many people around us; just a faithful few is more than enough.
I am equally often afraid of competition. Any circle of friendship that looks like we are in competition with each other, I often do my best to avoid such company. It's a good thing that a few of my friends share the same life goal and ambition with me, and rather than becoming bossy over them and vice versa, we choose to work as a team.
With the advent of the internet it is really easy to meet new friends. With that too I was able to meet and make new friends whom we first meet virtually and then fixed a date to meet up physically.
One among the friends I have met last year has recently finished her national Youth Service Corps and is stranded on what to do in life. Since she has learned a bit of sewing, I have offered to lend her my machines or that we cooperatively create and run a fashion business outside my home, and that way she can start up her career until we finally get to set her up.
And for another of my friends who share the same educational views with me, we are focusing on making plans on how to add more degrees to our papers in the coming year. It won't hurt to study a little more. I have never nurtured the idea of going back to school since 7 years ago. I have just felt the need recently when I meet a friend who is bent on pushing me forward academically.
All thanks to these friends, I found new light, hope, and desire to press on in the areas of my life that have been on hold for a while. These are the kind of circles I would love to be in, and I hope that all remains well with us all.
