Recently, I have been thinking about the kind of relationships that existed between families in the olden days and how it is in our today's world, where technology has replaced to some extent the physical bond that exists between family members and relatives. This prompted me to consider inventing a new holiday called family day in response to the InLeo prompt, which says:
If you could invent a new holiday, what would it be?
I remember when I was growing up and how my great-grandmother, my parents, and my siblings gathered most evenings and began to engage in story-telling. These elders also shared their past experiences filled with history and life lessons. It's always a gathering where memories of the past are reflected upon. We the children also tell our stories with laughter, and the bond continues. It's always a good time for family to bond together through this means, and we get to know each other more.
A new holiday like Family Day can come in the form of reflection where families get to share their ups and downs in life, maybe from the previous year, thus advice and corrections would take place for better growth. It can also cover expressing gratitude for where growth has taken place and planning for more expansion in life; it becomes a win-win together. Imagine where a day or two or three is dedicated just for you and your family. Imagine the kind of bond it will bring seeing each other having empathy for one another and offering solutions for a better life. Personally, I think it would yield a positive result, especially for families who genuinely and practically observe the purpose of this holiday.
I understand that some families take out time to really have family time together where their differences are trashed for a more peaceful home. Some families really observe most of these things I suggested, especially at the end of the year when they have the opportunity to be together, but the question is, how many families really practice this? For me and my family, yes, we do practice this, although not consistently, but to a large extent, we do. Now, having a nation-wide holiday that will center on Family Day might just be a gentle reminder for some families who haven't seen the need to create quality time for bonding and other relevant activities to do so. It may also help to strengthen some family relationships that are going sour, just maybe anyways, but from my experience, the relationship between my family and me after a quality family time also strengthens.
For some families, it takes them years to physically see each other, but technology has been coming through, yet it shouldn't replace physical bonding no matter the distance that keeps family members apart. There's something I used to tell my brother, and that is, even if the world rejects you for whatever reasons, your family and your blood will always accept you and help you to become a better being again. The blood relationship is thick and inseparable. It becomes important that any activity we can engage in to keep strengthening the relationship that exists between families shouldn't be overlooked.
Even if the family day doesn't come as a new holiday, there's a greater need to always create that quality time between you and your family.
Now tell me, what do you think about this holiday?

To be honest, I feel the old days were golden days and I miss those days. I know there was not so advanced technology and facilities but the boning and relations were very pure and the environment was more lively compared to the current time.

The bonding was indeed pure those days...we can still make it happen today
Thanks for visiting my friend
This is a good one, Nkem. This event would definitely instill a reminder button in every family to set aside that moment for themselves where they share lots of things about them. We do this among my siblings every year where we go inside our rooms, sit together and start sharing different life's experiences with each other, giving advice and scolding ourselves too. It usually is always fun. I would wish a family day as this happens.
You and your family are doing well... imagine when most people join this movement...it will be very beautiful
