I used to be somebody that always run away from music irrespective of the fact that i really love music. The conspircy theory that surrounds most of the songs i enjoy, made me think twice before listening to any music.

I have talked about this story a couple of times here in hive but in different prompts and from different perspectives.
Growing up in an african home, i was told many things about music in general. My parents always bought books that contains details about how somebody died for some hours and saw Jesus. They wrote that Jesus took them to hell, and heaven to witness how bad and beutiful the places are.
When i read this book, i see how the narator went to hell and see many different talented celebrities in hell fire because, according to the narator, the celebrities sold their soul to the devil.
It went further to say that these celebrities in hell warned the living that they should not listen to their music because it is a one way ticket to hell fire.
Naturally, as a kid, i was really frightened by this. Sometimes, i do avoid the books because it had disturbing images and writtings that made it difficult for me to fall asleep at night.
The fear was really intense, making me stop listening to my favourite songs, like that of Michael Jackson, Eminem, and P square and the rest. When i hear the songs, i became really scared, and either cover my ears or i run away from the place where the music is being played.
Everything changed when i went to Visit my aunty. I saw her children listening to these songs freely without feeling any remorse. At first, I saw them as people that will go to hell for listening to those songs, but then, after some time, I gradually began to understand that these musicians are talented people who impact the world with their raw talent and life stories.
I let go of every belief i had about goint to hell when i listened to the songs, and i started listening to these musics. I have been listening to my favorite rapper, Eminem, and i am loving every single song i listened. Even, currently, i am listening to Em's music - "cleaning out my closet."
Another thing i used to believe in that i stoped believing in, is the fact that my parents are really strong and emotionless. They never showed their emotions no matter what they pass through. Always remained strong. Damn, i admire that strength.
I grew up in a typical African home where the eyes of my mom has a lot of message to pass to you. As a child, i have never seen my parents cry for any reason. They show no emotions and all i can see is strength even when they are at their lowest both financially and health wise.
I got what i needed even though the economy was tight. They disciplined without showing pity or any form of emotions.
Growing up and leaving home, i realized that these people are not emotionless, they cry. They are not wicked, they love and its just descipline. They are not as strong as they seem, they have their battles. They are not as wise as it seems, they make mistakes. They are not all knowing, they also learn as the day goes by, but they are perfect for me.
I realized all these when i had nobody to correct my mistakes, no body to tell me do this and do that, when i had nobody to make very important decisions for me, when I had to count the ceilling while thinking of my next step in life. I realized all these when i started seeing the cruelty of life and why they had to indirectly teach me to be strong through their attitude.
They only thing i can do now is to support them in all ramificatiosn.
Thank you for reading

That's a good resolve after realizing your parents are only humans who have become more disciplined not to just show their emotions to their kids.
The thing about music, I think I've watched a video about it a long time ago... Those days! Lol.
We tend to realise that our childhood beliefs aren't all true when we grow older. Parents are not perfect, in fact they know but won't show it. They love so much but sometimes fall to communicate there love the right way or balance it.
One thing is that, your parents were in their mind trying to safeguard you guys from some kinds of life styles.
Of which, if they don't, you never can tell the direction you would have taken.
Those instructions as they seem to be, helped to build some foundation of good characters in you, before you started discovering the real truth as an adult.
Good you leanrnt from you mistake and corrected it
Our parents our lovely
They were trying to save you from indulging in a act isn't good for you
Now you know what is right and wrong
That was my same believe ☺️
Sometimes I wish that I never grew up here. The limiting beliefs imprinted in a child from an African home is always destructive. I hate it honestly. But glad you overcame. Listening to songs doesn’t take anyone to hell.
Very interesting! Believe is strong, but experience changes things
I really relate to your story, especially how fear influenced your beliefs as a child. It's great how you shifted your perspective. Your story really shows how much we grow once we see things from a different/another angle.
