Finding Snake Xensia

When it comes to tech evolutions, wake me anytime, anyday. As we grow, so does technology evolve. And what is it that's left for our growing selves? It is for us to adapt to evolving technological trends. When 90% of it's users begin to adapt to new trends, the formers are subjected to the memory of the users and the archives of the remaining 10% loyal users.

You see burner phones, those Nokia 3310 and the likes, I used them a lot when I was younger. There was once a time in history when if you got little Oluchi a phone and that phone did not have Snake Xensia installed in it, you've made a wrong move. Then, Snake Xensia was my happy place in phones. For those that have no idea what Snake Xensia is, it is this game that features a snake going after it's daily bread. Your job as a player was to ensure the snake continues to eat it's meal without colliding with the walls or some other parts of it's body. You direct the snake using the left, right, top and down buttons to direct the snake towards the left or right, upwards or downwards. With every meal, the snake grows an inch.

There were different versions of this game. The above is one. There was also the version where you had to find your way around bricks or those where you had to find your way through a maze. But the rules were almost the same in all versions. The snake shouldn't collide with walls or itself.

I loved this game so much back then, so did my friends. And of course, I was a pro at it too. What's that saying again? Focus on being the best at what you like doing. That exactly was what I did with this game. I loved it and I was a master at it. Even when the game was set to hardest, I still devoured the meals and ended up hitting the walls because there was no space for my snake body on the screen anymore.

One frustrating thing about the game was how easy it was to collide with your tail. Why will I struggle and grow so much, only for me to collide with myself and start all over from one inch? That's so frustrating. But what's a game without hurdles? They're aren't supposed to be easy since they are games. So yeah, I loved the game snake xensia and I miss it so much. Till now, when I have access to these burner phones, I still scroll through it's features and when I come across the application, I smile. Reliving one of my favourite childhood pastimes.

Another application on these phones I loved back then was this game Monkey Jump. This wasn't as popular as Snake Xensia but it was still my second most-cherished app then. Monkey Jump was a simple game that involved a little monkey, three poles and other animals. All you had to do in this game was to help the monkey avoid falling into the mouths of preys (other animals) coming down the pole by moving it from pole to pole, side to side.

I liked this game because it was quite easy for me back then. How hard could helping a monkey from pole to pole be? Well, as easy as it sounded, you needed to be very swift with your movements otherwise you'd find yourself in the mouth of a crocodile or worse still, stuck in the horn of a rhino. I won't really say I was a pro at this but I was still good either ways.

I miss these games a lot. They were part of things that made my childhood. Do you know any of them? Did you like any? Share with us in the Hive-naija community.
