To have an event for Hive in Nigeria—an avenue to promote and educate people on our beloved ecosystem—I was really excited about it and eagerly looked forward to it. Led and hosted by @starstrings01, we had the Hive Social Xperience held at our alma mater two weeks ago. And it was an honor to be a part of its success and to be a speaker.
The bottom line of this event was to create some awareness about the Hive blockchain among students and onboard some of them to be a part of the ecosystem and add value. To make that happen, we had to appeal to their youthful affinity for something sophisticated, enjoyable, and worthwhile. Hence, we rented a venue, created a fun atmosphere with music and games, and provided what we like to call "item 7" or "menu menu"—food and drinks.
For more details about the event, you may find that in the announcement and feedback posts. Here's only the Hive Social Xperience from my POV.
There were more important things to worry about, but I was excited about our custom Hive shirts. It just meant much to me that we—at least Gifted and I, as hosts—appeared in unison. Something simple yet more our style, minimalist Hive design on black.
The program was split into two parts, sort of. Gifted handled the first, and then myself the rest. But we had an M.C. manage the activities, fun, and everything in between, who happened to be @dayo.codes.
We gave out sixty tickets in total, and we had 45 people in attendance. I'd say that's massive, as that timing wasn't the most favourable. Students had tests that week, even during the event, and people were mostly ready to leave for home for the holidays. So have that number of people turn up within a week or two of putting out our fliers was hooOge for us, especially as a first.
The first part was majorly about introducing Hive to the audience and hearing from existing users like @sekani, @ghostmac, @mayorkeys, @the-lead, @starstrings01, and myself. And it also included the purpose of the Hive Social Xperience and power of Web3 in their hands and what they could do differently. The other half was showcasing Hive, buttressing some of what Gifted discussed prior concerning niches, communities, and "creator paths," and demonstrating how to create an account.
I was a tad bit nervous since I was doing such for Hive in public for the first time. But you know, I couldn't have them seeing that, so I concealed and just spoke with my heart and with passion. I even used a little bit of humor about our economy and demoed creating an account for our president, @t-pain. It was the people's idea, frens, not mine! 😂
Many of them became interested in joining and exploring Hive. We had some of them think of the usernames they would like to use and use that to introduce themselves whenever they wanted to ask questions. They would mention their actual names afterwards, though.
Oh, before I forget... We had an online quiz session using Kahoot. It was Gifted's idea—I didn't know Kahoot before—and it was a really good one. And it became an online live interactive game session where they had to answer questions based on the first session. There were winners, of course, and they were rewarded.
Are we going to do this again? Surely, we go again soon. And hopefully, it'll be even bigger and better. It was quite the experience for me. Accolades to @starstrings01 for making it happen and to the team members that helped make it a reality.
