Love Beyond Valentine’s Day

Everyone knows that Valentine's is a season of love, the time you celebrate your loved ones, and make them feel special.

To me, Valentine's means a lot, right from when I was a teenager, because it is a season of love, even though back then I didn’t have a boyfriend, not to talk of someone that would take me out or buy gifts for me on that day, but still I love Valentine’s Day.

I remember that my mom always told us that Valentine’s Day is not only for lovers but for the family as well, and she doesn’t allow me and my siblings to wear red and white as well because she feels like allowing us to celebrate Valentine’s Day like every other child will expose us to the world we don’t know.

When I was in SS1, a guy was crushing on me, which was unknown to me because I wasn’t beautiful, so I had no reason to be expecting someone to crush on me or want to have a relationship with me.

Aside from being ugly, my mom would kill me if I tried to date any guy back then. So let’s just say the fear of my mother and my looks never allowed me to date early like my peers, which I don’t regret anyway, but whenever it is Valentine’s Day, I always wish to go out or get a gift like everyone else, because most of my classmates always bring their Valentine’s gifts to school.

When I got into a serious relationship, that was when I got admission into the university, and my boyfriend, who is now my husband, made me experience all the love I thought I would never have.

He was the first person to buy me a Valentine gift, which was a greeting card and a rose as well. I cherished the gift so much to the extent that I kept it for a very long time. When I say a very long time, I mean for some years because it was my first Valentine's gift ever. And ever since we started dating, I have celebrated Valentine’s Day just like I wished.

My plan for this Valentine is not much at all because I will be busy working, but then I will find time to go out with my husband; he is not an outing type, neither am I, so we would just grab some food in the eatery, share gifts, and if I am too busy on that day, it means we would just have a special dinner at home.

The main reason why I don’t plan too much for Valentine’s is because most people believe that love should be celebrated on Valentine’s Day. Yes, that is true, but I and my husband cherish it, and we celebrate love every day, even before Valentine’s Day and after Valentine’s Day, so that is why planning too much for Valentine’s is never our thing as a couple.

Parents would always instill fear into their daughter concerning love at their early age even if it means to lie😂. That's great! Your university boyfriend became your husband.
