There's a day designated for love or the show of love every year in the gregorian calendar. The day is the 14th of February every year and the name of the day is the saint Valentine day. It's a special day not just for the date, but for what it entails which LOVE. Though there's has been criticism about the day which some tagged a day dedicated to pagan, but to me, everybody is entitled to his own opinion and his or her belief. But to me, one thing I know for sure is that the saint Valentine day exist not only because of the date or the name, but because of the most powerful thing that unite people together which is LOVE.
The saints Valentine day as history as brought it to us and as it's the practice all around the globe is a season meant for the celebration of love, it's the season where all human, mostly those who believe in the message of love show love to each other no matter their tribes, language, culture and so on. And this is to tell us that love supersedes and conquer all things. It's a day where there's exchange of gift between lovers, and when talking about lovers here, it doesn't mean it should be between a person and his or her spouse, but, it can be between anybody you deemed fit of your love. It's a time where people share what they have with people just to show they care and love them. It's a season of charity. The saints Valentine day.
But, to my dismay, most especially amongst the youthful folks in my area, the essence of this special day has been misinterpreted. They now see the day as a day when they are free to mess up themselves all in the name of love as been portrayed by the Valentine day. Just yesterday at my place of work which is a school, some of the student were caught in tha act of messing up themselves and when asked as to why they engaged in such act, they were just giving excuses about their preparation for the Valentine day. One of them said, a guy who happened to be the one messing around with the girls, promised her a gift on the Valentine day and that, if she would not allow her to mess up with her, he would give the gift to someone else and because of this, she would allow him to mess up with her.when I heard this, I called their attention to the essence of the day and they were really sensitized.
Though, I'm not a big fan of the Valentine day, and this is because, I don't believe in a one day showing of love to those whom I love so much and maybe that's why I don't really have a special experience about the Valentine day all through the days of my life. I could remember vividly when I was in courtship with my wife, and talking about my wife, she really love to be care for.
But in one of the Valentine day, she was expecting me to buy her gift and even come around so as for us to celebrate the day together, but guess what, on that particular day, I have totally forgotten that it's February 14, so when it's night, she called and flared up on phone, telling me how on earth I could not sent her text message just to show my love to her on the special day, but it's when she poured out her mind that I got to know that the day was a Valentine day and that she even meant what she's saying. But my response to her on that day was that, baby, my love for you is for ever and not for just a special day. When she heard this, she smiled, but reminded me of the need to always celebrate ourselves on the day. So, since that day, I have always been cognizance of that day and I have not missed the day for anything. This is not actually because of anything, but just because of the LOVE I have for my darling wife.
So, my expectation as we celebrate this year Valentine day is to have a lovely and lively day with my wife and family. This I will do in the form of a simple dinner celebration with my wife after the day's work. And in the mood of the celebration, I will love to express myself more to my darling wife on how much I love her and that words cannot even describe my love for her.
But, apart from this, one thing that I'm eagerly waiting for and that will be the highlight of my this year Valentine celebration is the kind of celebration I would have with my students at school and in the course of celebrating with them on the day, I would also use the medium of the celebration to sensitize them on the best way of them celebrating the subsequent Valentine day that's full of love with their love ones. I will like to tell them that what saints Valentine is preaching is not immoralities of this world, but agape love which lives long than us.
