Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog.
I will be participating in Hive Naija weekly prompt by answering the first question:
Describe your wardrobe fashion sense... Wears that can not be found in your wardrobe, an old wear that's still a favourite, how often do you decide to dress up well? Do you think your dressing plays a role in how you see yourself daily? Share anything about your fashion sense.
Clothing is one of the three basic needs of man and what a man puts on overtime gives a lot of information about who he is, his mood, his culture and and what he does. I actually love fashion but moderation is one of my key guide when it comes to fashion. I don't like any cloth that doesn't cover my bust or shoulder part. I don't wear them so you can't find them in my wardrobe. I have one long " iro and buba" but I don't wear it ever since we used it for my Grandma's burial.
I love gowns but I will choose short gowns over long gowns. Not too short at most two inches above my knee. I wear trousers and I love Palazzo than pencils-trousers. Probably because I don't so much like fitted clothes I love something big that will make me feel comfortable and classy.
I don't wear skirts like that because I don't feel free and wearing big skirts, it's not my style. Don't forget I said I love something that will not be too fitted on me.
My favorite dress is an Ankara that we used as Aso Ebi ( family wear) in 2014 for my Dad's remembrance party and I sew short iro and buba (Oleku) with it. I love this dress because it shows culture and anytime I wear it I get lovely compliments especially from elderly women. I till have it well kept in my wardrobe.
Dressing well is never an option for me because I make sure I look presentable everytime. I choose this due to an encounter my mom had with a banker. My mom is not someone that is selective when it comes to dressing. She wears clothes not for fashion but to cover her nakedness. That is, she doesn't real give much attention to what she wears. This particular day, we wanted to complain about a deduction from her salary at the bank. I think it was #10000 then in 2002 and they have been deducting this monthly because she took a loan. They ought to have stopped it but they didn't so this triggered her anger.
On getting to the customer service we were asked to wait and we waited for over four hours and when she couldn't bear the waiting she shouted at one of the back officials and the way she looked at her was really dehumanizing. I could feel it where I was seated. Later, they called her inside an office and the customer service lady said she is not sure my mom is okay even from her dressing she knows she is probably sick. She did not know I was her daughter, I was a teen then, I couldn't correct her . When we were leaving my attention was on the lady I'm sure she got the message clear enough that I was angry. Since then, I have vowed that I will never dress anyhow to places. That doesn't mean I am a fashion frick person, I don't do anything out of my earning and I know how to be stylish without breaking a bank.
Because of my love for looking good I learnt tailoring and hair making. I don't do both as a source of income I learnt both for personal satisfaction and making people happy.
My dressing has been a major way I win the heart of most of my learners. I knew how teachers were mocked in the past and because of that no one wants to be one. The determination to change the narrative overtime has been my goal and I am happy I'm creating a change in that aspect. You can't know from my dressing that I'm a teacher because I dress most times like an office staff. This makes me happy everyday. If I don't dress neat and standard enough to anyplace I won't be comfortable. As in "no vibes" I won't even go to where people will notice me. There is this ego that comes with dressing well that makes you want to create awareness of your existence. I do cherish that alot.
I not too classy when it comes to dressing to the market. I dress like the market women anytime I'm going to the market so that I don't get overcharged and robbed. I get to like dressing neat from one sister in my fellowship then, she is a natural beauty type but knows how to combine colours and give you a Waoh look. Sister Ruth is my model when it comes to dressing nice. Till date I'm still a learner when she is around and she teaches too.
Like I will always tell my learners, dress your future now, start dressing to fit into the environment you dream of. The type of people that will come to you as a lady can be a factor of your dressing. Fashion to me is not exposing your nakedness, it is looking good, combining the right colours, loving yourself and creating uniqueness without overdoing or overspending.
Thanks
