The very first time I heard this song, it felt like my knees weakened. It was used in this video in which there was a party sort of and some notable personalities were exchanging laughter, pleasantries, handshakes and hugs. It was an excellent choice for the video. But more than that, it was an even excellent music.
The video, I saw it on a friend's status and saved it. And all through that day and days after, I would play the song repeatedly(the video I mean), cause I did not know the artiste behind it. It wasn't a popular hit at the time. I must have played the song an unhealthy number of times back then
The next time that i encountered the song was during a dance-off between skit maker, Steve Chuks and Jennifer Eliogu which streamed (and still streams) on YouTube, after the skit the two collaborated on. It was then that I learned that the title of the song was ONULUBE which was sung by Jennifer Eliogu somerime in the year 2022. I must have said a prayer for her for this masterpiece.
It is a beautiful song with deep meaning. A heartwarming, uplifting music that draws you into fillial bonds through the love the singer espouses for brothers and sisters. It's the kind of song that touches your soul without even trying.
Although she referred to the igbo tribe, I believe that this I a song that will make warring siblings pause, their eyes mist with emotions and evocative feeling and remembrance of as they kiss and make up.
It is powerful, every lyrics of the song.
The song talks about love, unity and forgiveness. It tells that we need to let go, forgive and be one. It talks about the bond that family share and the need to not let strife prevail. It says that when you see a brother/sister in despir, dont run away but draw closer and help them through.
The ogene beats, the unmistakably Igbo sound of the song, plus the incredibly potent, uplifting, heartwarming lyrics belted forth, spoke to my soul in volumes.
The kind of song that makes your eyes misty with love and admiration. I'd look for my sister's trouble and then play the song right after. Her reaction is always hilarious.
It makes me proud, the kind of family I was born in where love rules supreme but I am most glad that it would never be heard of us that we turn our backs on one another.
Seriously, the song seems underrated, but i would totally recommend it to anyone and for any occasion especially family moments. The message is deep yet clear.
I so love that song. Everything about it.
From the sound to the lyrics to the voice. It's beautiful
Below is a clip of the music video. I hope that you listen to it and enjoy the richness of the song that transcends language but fosters unity and happiness.
Thanks for stopping by.
