What is government really? Is it the entity that frustrates the efforts of its citizens and renders many incapacitated? How on earth can a government be so insensitive to the outcry of its people? Can we continue like this and still hope that things will eventually work out for all of us?
Ever since this present administration assumed office about two and some months ago, everything has gone upside down. The economy, financial stability, and the health of the citizens have been deteriorating by the day. The cost of living keeps rising like the blood pressure of a hypertensive person.
Do we deserve this kind of treatment from our own president-elect? What else can we call it, if not dictatorship? The well-being of citizens should be the utmost priority. But in our country, it seems that the interests of those in power supersede the needs of the people. What else can we call this?
How can a government be so clueless, all in the name of policy-making? Barely a month into power, you removed the subsidy, and to crown it all, you floated the naira and rendered it almost useless. At least we hoped for a government that would take drastic but lasting steps to restore stability.
Instead, this government worsened the situation and placed its own needs above those of the people. You increased the minimum wage, but that has only become another problem. Prices of commodities keep increasing daily. Mr. President, I must say, you have indeed kept your promises in your manifesto to widen the tax net and lower the purchasing power of citizens, supposedly to slow down the economy. We were just too clueless and naïve not to see this coming.
I remember some years back, this same group currently in power was the first to condemn our dear former president for increasing fuel prices. That president, at least, listened to the people and reversed his decision. But what do we have now? A president who turns a deaf ear to the cries of his citizens.
The most disheartening thing I heard from our president was that he knew we were going through a lot because of his policies, yet claimed there was nothing he could do about it. Instead, he continues to frustrate the citizens by increasing fuel prices for the common man. Prices of goods keep soaring daily. How do we escape this hardship? Can we really continue like this?
Even the so-called salary can’t sustain a person for a month anymore, transportation alone has consumed it. It’s a shame that those who are supposed to advise the president are among the beneficiaries of these policies. The funny thing is, the people tried to protest, yet the president threatened to arrest them all. As of yesterday, some citizens intend to take to the city to protest only for the police to tell the protecter that they won’t be available to assure their safety.
I just hope we can all wake up from our slumber and fight for what is right. We can’t continue like this.
Nigeria is gone past the point of asking questions to a senseless government. They are not interested. They never have. So, it’s every man for himself at this point.
I agree with you to a great extent. You have to keep reminding them, of course.
I don't blame the president. I blame us who chose to put him there. We could have easily avoided the mistake knowing he didn't care and wasn't capable of the job.
The cost of my medications for example, did x4 of it's price and it's not even up to 2 years.
The medicine I could comfortably buy has now become a burden for me to afford
