Choosing a Course

Okay, I am not someone who overthinks things; rather, I usually go around things with how I feel sometimes, and this makes me make any decision faster, but one time I knew I had to think long and hard about something was when I had to choose a course to study in school, and the reason was I was going for a part-time program that really didn't have a variety of courses to pick from.

it was really a tough decision for me because i had to choose between two courses that i knew i could do, and also because this two courses seemed interesting to me, and they were: business Administration and Marketing, but my major concern was the calculation aspect that came with the courses

Okay, you should know I have a phobia of calculations; like, I literally melt when I come across calculations. It might sound weird to some people, but to me, it doesn't. If at all I can avoid it all my life, I would. So when I saw that these two courses were the only available options for me to pick from, and both involved calculations, I was hesitant about it; I didn't know where to fall, and this made me think a lot for days.

I had to weigh the pros and cons of both courses; I had to think about the job opportunities involved and also think about the growth aspect. No matter how I thought about it, I just couldn't make up my mind. So part of me wanted to study business administration because it seemed like a more stable career path, but another part of me wanted to study marketing because it seemed more creative and exciting. after thinking and even seeking advice from friends, family members, and even some mentors.

I had spoken to someone who I look up to; I see her as a mentor. The conversation with help helped a lot; she asked me about my strengths and weaknesses and what I wanted to achieve in my career. I know I made sure to tell her about my fear of calculations. Her response: "Don't worry, calculations are not the only thing that matters in business." She went ahead to explain that there were aspects in business that didn't require calculations, which included problem-solving, communication, and creativity, and that marketing was a field that required people who could think outside the box.

There and there, I made my decision to go with marketing; it was a tough decision, but I guess so far it has been the right one. The conversation with her made me realize that it was a field that aligned with my strength and somehow my interest. Okay, so it wasn't calculation-free, but the calculations weren't too much. So I didn't regret picking this course since I started in 2022, so I'm grateful for the opportunity to study something that I love.

So this decision I made was a big one, and it was a decision that required me to think carefully about my strengths and weaknesses and also my interests. Also, it did teach me about myself as a person and what I wanted to achieve in my career.
