My First Concert

One event I can never forget in my University school days was a concert we had in our school stadium, "Hosannah Invasion", by Streams of Joy. It was an unforgettable experience. Before then I've heard about concerts but I am not really the going out type of person so I never really got to attend. But this one happened in my school, so it was more like they were bringing the party to me.

To be honest, at first I was somewhat reluctant about attending it. I thought it'll be best to just stay inside my room and save myself the stress, but I'm glad I didn't later go ahead with that plan. What really triggered my interest to attend the concert was when I saw one of my favorites gospel artist by the name Tim Godfrey on the flyers being pasted almost every corners of my school. I was a bit doubtful about his appearance at the concert, maybe it could be one of those things where you put up a guest on a flyer just to get people to attend. But then, it was a free concert, so what was the need for that?

While staying in my room contemplating whether I should go or not, it then occured to me that there was not food in the kitchen and hunger was already gradually dealing with me. I knew that staying in my room was the rest of that night wasn't going to help matters as there was no hope for eating that night, so I might as well just go and pass the rest of the night at the concert. Having a beautiful time with other students like me would definitely take my mind off food and also the hunger. So I got up from my bed and headed straight to my school stadium.

On getting there, half the place was already crowded with students even though it was still at least an hour and half to the concert. The stage was gradually being set. The media crew were test running there cameras and their drones. Drones? That's when I knew that this concert wasn't going to be the usual. I think that was the first time of me seeing drones flying up and down life.

The entire program was really amazing from the start to the finish. All along I used to think that our school wasn't all that populated with students, but after that concert I realized I was wrong. I've never seen any occasion in the school whereby it had that much number in one place. It was really a spirit lifting experience. One of the guest Ministers was even from the United States, by the name Phil Thompson. Yeah, I was seeing him life.

And then most awaited artist that had kept everyone till 10 pm in the night climbed the stage and I could hear screams everywhere. It's no other that Tim Godfrey. He even did a duet with Phil Thompson. I was really amazed when it got to the part that Phil Thompson began to sing in Igbo. What can I say, it must be the "Tim Godfrey" effect.

And then he sang one of his popular songs as at that time, Ona-ga..., and then the whole place was just heated up. People from every corner rushed for him towards the stage when the song came up, even the bouncers mounted at the stage where almost overpowered due to the number of people that rushed him.

I ended up living the venue about 11:30 pm. It was just funny how four hours had passed by and it felt more life 40 minutes. I was so filled with joy and happiness, it was as though they substituted for food because I couldn't feel the hunger I felt when I was in my room. That wasn't just my best concert experience but also my best experience I've ever had in school. I was even hoping for another edition the following year but unfortunately it didn't happen. It was indeed a remarkable moment for me.
