It is within the family that we find our first relationships, learn life lessons and develop the flexibility that is needed to face the world. No family is perfect, it’s full of mistakes.
Furthermore, a family is a group of individuals that is connected by blood, marriage or other significant relationships. These unions, however, go beyond biological ties. Families are built on mutual trust, support, care, respect and shared experiences. A family is serves as source of emotional stability; it offers comfort in times of need and celebrating successes together. A resilient family creates a nurturing environment where each member feels valued, celebrated, encouraged and cherished.
One of the most significant roles of a family is to shape the character and values of its members, especially children. Parents and guardians act as role models, instilling principles like honesty, reliable, empathy and bounciness. Through everyday interactions, children and family members learn the importance of communication, conflict resolution and compromise. These teachings are taught within the family and it’s extended into other areas of life, such as companionships, careers and community involvement.
However, families provide practical assistance to its members. They share responsibilities, such as household chores, financial obligations and caregiving for the elderly and aged parents. This collaborative approach does not only ensure the smooth functioning of the household but also fosters a sense of teamwork and communal obligation.
Life itself is a risk, we learn every day. Most people become adamant to issues of life even when they have been foretold about a particular incidence that is bound to occur. It happened that a particular man got married to his wife, with many children without the consent of his wife’s family. The children grow up to marriageable ages without their father knowing his in-laws or paying his wife’s bride price. There was a vision to the family that, they should take their daughter who intended to get married, to their hometown, and that the man should buy a cloth to elderly person in the maternal and paternal families of his wife, to pray for their daughter before marriage or else, the daughter will not reach 25th December 2024. They were adamant and ignored the message, saying that “it doesn’t matter”; they carried out the traditional marriage for their daughter successfully. Everybody were happy, celebrated and entertained.
Tradition is very powerful, since the father didn’t do it for his wife; they were warned that they have no right to collect or eat anything from the husband of their daughter. After two days, their daughter slipped and fell down, she screamed and was unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital. The following day, she gave up the ghost. I pitied the lady when I heard of that tragedy. This serves as deterrent to us all.
Marriage rite is a formal and symbolic ceremony that unites two individuals in a lifelong commitment that is usually recognized by cultural, religious and legal systems. This is very crucial, without which, it leads to death.
Cultural and societal influences play a crucial role in shaping family dynamics. Traditions, rituals and celebrations within families help preserve cultural heritage and create a sense of uniqueness. However, families are not without challenges. It communicates openly, listen to instructions, unbelieve and wavering heart lead to destruction, support one another and adapt to change are better equipped to overcome difficulties. Economic pressures, health issues or external societal challenges can strain relationships. Yet, it is often during such adversities that the strength of a family is tested.
