Why I don't believe in zodiac signs

Astrology and the zodiac signs are subjects to which people often give extended discourse, but remain mystifying when they are not understood through at least one channel. Like you, I also wondered what they were when I first heard people talking about them. There are those who hold a fervent conviction that a person's zodiac sign can describe what personality they have, predict what their life could look like, or even pair them off with another person. From my point of view, I am not a believer that astrology does not make sense and has no significance to me, it is not enough to believe in a zodiac sign. I’ll explain why in the simplest way I can, using real-life experiences.

The first time I heard of the zodiac signs, I inquired to my friend what those were. She told me that they are determined by date and month of birth of a person. For instance, if a person is born in March, a Pisces or an Aries may be called, depending on the day of birth. She then described that people that are in the same sign on the zodiac have in common similar traits. (e.g., individuals born as Leos are supposed to be brave and conceited, while individuals born as Virgos are supposed to be disciplined and meticulous). This sounded strange to me. It has been suggested that the time a person is born influences behavior. I did not receive a clear answer and even more unidentified I felt.

One time, another friend asked me, “What’s your zodiac sign? I told her I didn’t know, so she checked it for me. She explained that, according to my zodiac sign, I have the traits of being hardworking, loyal, and caring. I laughed because there are many individuals who do not exhibit any of these behavioral traits, yet have the same zodiac sign as I do. How do we share a common experience, merely because we were born at the same time? My husband was born in a different month from me, and he has some of the same traits as me. Does that mean he should have my zodiac sign? It didn’t make sense to me.

Another is that astrology leads people to judge other people before they get to know them. I’ve heard people say, “Oh, you’re a Gemini? I don’t like Geminis because they are two-faced. Imagine judging someone just because of their birth month! This doesn’t seem fair to me. Everyone is unique. We can't box people in with their zodiac sign.

I also think astrology can create unnecessary fear. I remember a horoscope, which is like a daily prediction according to your star sign. It also claimed that evil would happen to me that day. I became anxious and spent the whole day worrying. In the end, nothing bad happened, but the stress I felt wasn’t worth it. That experience made me stop paying attention to horoscopes.

In my opinion, a person’s actions, choices, and values define who they are not their zodiac sign. We all have good and bad sides, and these come from how we were raised, our experiences, and the decisions we make every day. Although astrology can be of interest to all, it should not be considered as a true fact (i.e. For me, it’s better to focus on understanding people for who they truly are, not what their zodiac sign says about them).

I think when it comes to personality, zodiac signs are 80% correct. However, as humans, we have behavioral habits influenced from background, environment, personal principles and so on. SO, it is wrong to judge a person based on their zodiac sign because while a Leo may be "wired" to be naturally arrogant, they also have their personal attributes which is different to what the zodiac sign says about them. However, I'm saying this from personal experience, 80% of the personality traits for each zodiac signs are always correct. Leos are arrogant, Sagittarians are flirty, Cancers are so sensitive and so on. I don't believe in horoscopes though, nothing has the power to predict the future. 😅

You're right though but till I see or understand the Zodiac well, I'll stick to what I believe.
