My IT Day - Throw Away Your Shell

in Hive Naija9 months ago (edited)

Hello @hivenaija, First time writing here since I returned from my Hive Break!!

Every one of us has had our moments, moments where we felt like the star of the show. Those moments are memories that we can never let go of no matter how hard we try. There are moments we look back and then we wear a smile on our face unintentionally. The same way I feel IT moments are times when I was my best self. Times where I wish I could relive and have a broad smile.

I walked into class that day and I was feeling elated. I am always someone who would come to class every day as a law student and just sit with my friends. I rarely want to interact or have any conversations. I think this period my main trait in my friend circle is being the listener, I just listen and then at the end of the day, I either nod or give a brief reply. I think my friends understand me well so they are used to being the talker while I will be the listener.

On this said day, I woke up feeling better, I decided to come out of my shell and do some interactions. Yes everyone knows me as a girl who keeps to herself but I was going to change that mentality I said to myself before I left home. When I got to school, I located my friends and sat with them. This time I didn’t do much of the listening. I decided to talk about my previous day and at first they were shocked but then they got carried away by the gist.

We had our first lecture and turns out we had an impromptu presentation to do. We were split into our usual groups and before now, I was hiding behind and doing the whispering. Well, I said to myself “Today wasn’t that day” and I told the leader that I would love to do the talking. Everyone in the group was a bit skeptical because nobody wanted to use their score as leverage for my practical work on coming out of my shell.

At first, I was a bit nervous but I was able to shake it out, and then I headed to the podium where I gave my speech on behalf of my group members. I could sense the shock on their faces when I started speaking and how well I was able to answer every question. When it was time for review by the lecturer, I was given the best Review of my life. I felt so elated and kept smiling throughout the day.

After the presentation, I had lots of people come over to tell me that I should throw away my shell and be free because I did so well and they were proud of me. I have had so many memories that make me smile, the memory of when my crush wrote back to me in my primary school but none of that beats the Review I got from my lecturer and colleagues that day. She happens to be the strictest lecturer in the Faculty of Law but that Review made us close.

Whenever I remember this, I grin from cheek to cheek as I count this an “IT” day for me.

Thanks for stopping by my blog

Yayyyy, way to go dear! I love this for you cause I know how hard it is transitioning from being the listener to the talker, the one who loves blending in to the one who can thrive in the spotlight. I hope you've been able to carry this wave with you since then. Go girl!!🌺

Thank you so much, it wasn't easy but I am excited I was able to transition. thank you for stopping by.
