I don't think it was always this way. Are you old enough to remember those newspapers that were in supermarket check-out lanes that had outrageous headlines. One of the publications was called "National Enquirer" and it was not meant to be taken seriously. There were several others. People bought them hopefully knowing full well that they were fake news. These days though, almost all publications are using similarly untrue headlines but trying to present the information as fact.

Oh ya. I remember Bat Boy, aliens and the like. Tim Pool explains it petty well. Using key words, exaggerations, etc. drive clicks which drive revenue. Perhaps we are lucky to have lived long enough to see through the bullshit.
I'd like to read that article or video of Tim Poole talking about that. I'll see if I can find it.
Not an article, he just brings it up now and then when the subject is brought up.
