I recently discussed with a friend the idea of doing away with time altogether. Instead, just go by the sun. When are you open? Daytime. When I get there. Dinner reservations? Come at night. You'll get the first table available. No reservation? That's OK, but you'll have to wait until the people with reservations are seated. Or if you want a speciifc table, fine. Pay ahead of arrival and we'll hold the table until you get here. How long are we open? Well, until there are no customers left or daylight, whichever comes first. We are open only at night.
Stock exchange? Shouldn't that kind of commerce be "24 hours" (meaning, never closed) anyway? You know, like the surveillance state is open all the time?
Planes? We have planes. Once it's full we're leaving. This one is going to Chicago. You want to go to LA? Get enough people that want to go to LA and once the plane is full, we'll go there. As soon as one plane leaves the gate, another one takes its place.
It's really that simple. Just let go.

Well, my guess would be kind of a groupshare idea. Someone posts something somewhere like "going to LA soon, who wants in?" If the poster gets critical mass, then the poster contacts a provider and says "I got this many people for LA". Discussions ensue as to fare and when and possible return flight. Essentially a chartered flight. Sounds cumbersome but if it became the norm I'm sure apps and whatnot would fill in the inconveniences (and attract competition, from other providers as well as other modes of transport. Heck, I'd sleep in the back of a moving truck if I could get to my destination cheaply.)
