Sounds like they watch too much science fiction.

No it uses magnetic attraction and repulsion to turn the rotor. The 'fuel' is magnetic flux, and the magnets will depolarize after about 30 years. I'm working on a control system, and a novel way to pull power off of these magnets as they turn.

Some of these magnetic gate projects have exploded from centrifugal forces, so there is a significant amount of power contained in this system. NASA tried to use them for satellite power, but it's hard to change magnets in orbit!
