As I am creating this content, my fan is blowing cool air and my freezer is working, and at the same time, my mind is doing kpom kpom, that is to say, it is breathing faster, you might be wondering why because I can't wait for the day to break so that I can check how many units I used all through the night because normally I will put off the freezer and use only the fan, but I have something I need to preserve so the freezer and the fan needs to be on same time.
I live in Aguda Surulere, and my street has a bit level of understanding with the electricity company, so for the five years I moved in here, we have had constant light at least 18hrs in a day, and then we pay the bills of five to seven thousand Naira on a monthly basis on post paid and that was a bit fair, and people using prepaid meters recharge two to three thousand Naira each month.
No one has any cause of complaint.
Just last year we started hearing about the so-called Bands, we were now informed that there are bands A, B, C even E and we asked what that is all about they said it is to help regulate the system that the people in the Band A will have light at least 22 hours of the day and the traffic will be a little bit higher than the other bands.
The people using postpaid where now get bills of fifty to two hundred thousand for just a room in just a month.
Currently, a family of three living in a two-bedroom apartment subscribes more than eighty thousand Niara a month just to have light, which has made life difficult for so many people.
Personally, I am fortunate to be using the analog prepaid meter that doesn't read as fast as the new model prepaid meter but at the same time the traffic has increased, since early January last year I recharge just 3000 Naira and it will last for a month and some days, but currently, I keep on putting off my appliances just to see if I can manage 5000 Naira in one month, and I am not complaining because my next door neighbor that doesn't have even a television uses ten thousand Naira which is ridiculous.
One good thing about this new method of electricity is that we enjoy twenty-two hours of light at a stretch, sometimes seventy-two hours of power supply at a go, which has really helped me in this extreme weather that we are experiencing in Nigeria.
People are seriously lamenting over the high charges they pay just for power supply, and this is because the income is not that big, some have gone to the extent of telling the power-holding company to remove their light because they can't afford to pay for electricity and also pay other bills.
In my area, this band A of a thing has made it possible for us to have up to 24 power supply but Nigeria will always be Nigeria so on most occasions the national grid will collapse especially during the dry season and it can take some days before the grid will be fixed, last year it was counted up to 12 times the grid collapsed, at some point, people started making fun of it because we don't understand why national grid will be collapsing frequently.
If you are in Nigeria and you are into a business that requires constant light, it will be better if you go for solar panels to have constant power because that is the sure plug for constant light, then you can have a generator on standby for emergencies.
For now I have no cause of serious complain but if i leave this place or if government finally takes away all analog meter i will have to come back and tell you guys what is going on in my life .
Thank you and take care.
Having a constant power supply is a blessing. I hate power cuts. And running out of recharge amount. That's why a direct post-paid line seems better to me.
How I wished I was closed to you to share int the blessings. I am happy that your light is a bit constant. Thank you for sharing
