Unintended Disappointment

Talking about disappointment, I’ve gone through it more than I can count, infact I brace myself for it actually, especially when dealing with humans like myself.

Sometimes in life, disappointments are inevitable— as some of them could come as a blessing in disguise.

Mabel was my coursemate in school, I wouldn’t say we were very close but we were able to relate very easily, whil Mr Samuel was my very strict lecturer who treated us like secondary school students by shutting the door against us, whenever we were late to his class.

On this day, I was able to slip in fast enough before Mabel and other students were locked out. Because he was truly wicked, he gave those inside the class an impromptu test.

Those shut out missed the test that day.

Mabel was so unhappy that she missed the test. I consoled her by telling her that she would make up for it somehow. Then she asked me to lend her #20,000 naira which would be returned by the end of that month. According to her, she needed to buy some reading materials urgently.

I obliged her because I had some extra cash and I really was happy I could be of help.

But then the books were temporarily out of stock, but she could check again in a few days. So she said I should keep the money safe for her, she didn't want to spend it on frivolities.

I fell ill two days later and because I didn't want to call home, I decided to use the money for treatment. That same day, she called me that she needed the money immediately as the books were now in stock.

I couldn’t face Mabel to tell her I used the money for treatment, so I sent her a text message which she didn’t reply to till the day we left. When we met in school the next day, she walked past me like she didn’t know me.

Initially I felt bad for disappointing her, after she put her trust in me, but with time I realized that it was not my fault either and there was no need to feel bad because my health was also paramount.

Thank you very much for reading.

Thank you.

True true some disappointment are inevitable.
Nice work dear.

Thank you very much 🙏

Coming from Mabel point of view, she probably thought you didn’t want to lend her the money again and all her hopes had been shattered, but on the other hand, your health is still very much important. What you would have done when she walked passed you in school was to call her attention and still explain things better for her to understand
