Procrastination is a disease; it has done me more harm than good. I have lost many deals because of procrastination, postponing something that I know is necessary for me to do, knowing full well that the thing I am procrastinating is important. There is one thing I find out: when we procrastinate on things, there is every probability that we will work under pressure. Because we failed to work while we have all the time to do that.
Over the years now, I have been battling with procrastination. I always procrastinate on things. My elder brother stopped talking to me because of procrastination. After I graduated from the high institution, my elder brother called me that there was an opening in their office. I should apply. He even sent me the link. I kept procrastinating the day I would register. The day I finally decided to register, it happened that the site had closed for applicants. That was when I realised that procrastination had dealt with me. It's not like I am doing anything. Why do I keep postponing something that important?
My brother called to know if I had applied for the work. The moment I told him I was unable to apply, he was so mad at me. That was a good opportunity I missed all because of procrastination. That was when I realised I had lost a well-paying job. The whole family was mad at me. My dad was like, I keep telling you about procrastinating things; now look at where it has landed you. That was the day I made up my mind to fight procrastination because that job was a good-paying job.
I have to sit down and ask myself, why do I keep procrastinating? What measures should I take to overcome procrastination? After much thinking, I came up with these steps that help me to overcome procrastination.
How I was able to fight procrastination.
I set a deadline. i set a deadline of a particular thing i will want to achieve Setting a deadline helps to motivate and guide me. Before the end of the deadline, I will accomplish that task since I started setting a deadline; it limits the way I procrastinate on things.
Distraction: I do away with things that distract me, such as social media and movies. They are two of the things that always make me procrastinate, and I have to eliminate them because they have done me more harm.
Set a goal: Focus on what you want to achieve. It will help you to fight procrastination. Once you set a goal, you will be very determined to achieve your goal. All your mind is focused on is productivity, and you will not like anything to stop you from achieving it.
Here are a few steps that help me to overcome procrastination.
No matter how good you think procrastination is, believe me, procrastination is very bad. Procrastination is a disease that we most fight. Being able to fight procrastination is one of the biggest challenges for me. When you procrastinate on things, there is a probability that we will work under pressure.
