Procrastination, A Thief In Disguise!

It is the end of the day and I'm staring at the to-do list I made earlier, right at the bottom of the list is one project that I've been pushing down and putting off, for several days now.

"Okay I'll do it tomorrow, definitely". I tell myself sternly.

Now "tomorrow" is here, and the job remains very much undone!

Procrastination is something we all battle with at some point, there are days when we feel overwhelmed and tell ourselves, " I'll do it later, when I'm ready." Unfortunately, sometimes that readiness can take longer than expected because the truth is that the longer we wait, the harder it becomes, especially for the more difficult tasks, and if you don't watch it, tomorrow could stretch into days, and even weeks or more.

Procrastination, is the thief of time, of productivity and of one's peace

It's okay if it's just a little delay, you know a once-in-a-while stuff, harmless, but when it becomes perpetual and tasks pile up, and you feel this heavy weight of guilt, that's the time to tackle the "monster" head-on.

I should weed my little garden, it's about time, but I just wasn't up to it, I was not in the right mood to pick up a cutlass. Tomorrow!

But days went by and the garden became completely taken over by weeds, I sighed every time I looked at it, telling myself I’d get to it tomorrow. The longer I put it off, the more the weeds became an inconvenience, the more my peace was gradually eroded. By the time I actually got to it, it was tough, it was hardwork, the once succulent vegetables were tangled in a twisted mass that I had to destroy almost everything.

The vegetables I painstakingly planted and nurtured with my very own hands, all gone

I fight everytime, to be able to overcome procrastination and its sneaky whispers, "Leave it for later". It has to be a conscious and predetermined effort on your own part, know that there's no such thing as a perfect time for a particular task, waiting for such a time could take forever.

I have realized that overcoming inertia is the most difficult of all the steps, but once started, you get into the flow and the task becomes less daunting.

I have taken writing down my to-do list more seriously now than ever, and sticking to it religiously. In performance, not skipping any of them for the other, but checking off one task before the next, so no one is pushed to the bottom. I think I can say that I'm winning my war against procrastination, not totally though.... I still dilly-dally when it comes to certain tasks but discipline is key and it is still an on-going process.

Eyah Procrastination often ends up costing more than the pleasure we left basic tasks for. Sorry about your garden dear, I know you learned the hard way

I did learn the hard way dear 😊
Thanks

The illustration with the procrastination on weed clearing explained it all. The more you postpone, the more it becomes tough to clear

That is so true!
Thank you for stopping by.
