As much as I would love to be calm with the electricity situation in my environment, I find it frustrating when we don’t have electricity for 24 hours and you can’t even tell what’s going on. No information from the electricity company, and if not for prepaid meters, a lot of us will automatically pay for something we didn’t use.
Sometimes, I wonder where all the funds made by the electricity company are going too because it looks like they are more about making money than providing the service customers are paying for. When there is an issue, it takes them forever to show up, but it’s the other way around when they want to go from house to house disconnecting houses for not paying their bills.
I know it’s necessary for them to do so, but shouldn’t they apply the same energy in providing the service we are paying for?
Electricity in my new environment is somehow better than where I used to live two months ago. At my former residence, it’s always a miracle when we have electricity for 6 hours in a whole day, and it doesn’t even come at once; they switch it on and off like a toy, causing damage to electronic devices in various homes.
There are times we go days without electricity, and we have to depend on other sources of electricity. When we try to know what the problem is, nobody is talking, and I find it really annoying.
At the moment, enjoying 16 hours of uninterrupted power supply feels really good, but on days when the electricity won’t come up at all, there is no news about it. The only time we get to know there is a problem is when the national grid is down, but aside from that, everyone is in the dark.
In the past 24 hours, we’ve not had electricity, and it’s very unusual since I moved here. The maximum time electricity has been out can’t be more than 3 hours, and it doesn’t happen often.
I stepped out to ask the landlords around me, and they said they can’t even tell what the problem is. They have a WhatsApp group where some officials from the electricity company were added, and despite asking what went wrong, no one replied.
I want to assume it was the strong wind that swept across the environment yesterday afternoon; it later rained last night, so the cables might be wet, and they want to sun-dry it before turning on electricity again. Unfortunately, the sun isn't shining at its best, and we have to wait more before electricity is restored.
If the wind or rain had caused damage, creating awareness about it shouldn’t be an issue, and I really want to know if electricity is always turned off in other countries as well when it rains because that’s a tradition I still cannot comprehend here.
The electricity situation in Nigeria is complicated, and I don’t think we can ever meet international standards because even smaller African countries with less population, resources, and wealth have stable electricity while we are struggling. I really shouldn’t be surprised because the nation is struggling with everything. Countless companies are relocating to other neighboring countries because of this electricity issue, and our government isn’t moved, knowing very well that unemployment will keep increasing in the country.
At the time when power generators were our only alternative, the people in the government were in charge of importing those machines, and now that solar is a relief, they are still the ones in charge. They want their investments to yield returns, so having stable electricity will only be a dream, and Nigerians should know this by now.

thank you o for the last part of this post because it is in line with what I said as well. Everyone should just look for ways of helping themselves out when it comes to powering up their gadgets. Government no send anybody
If the government is deceiving, we can't continue to deceive ourselves. Anyone who wants to be free from this electricity problem should just seek alternatives, get a solar which is the best option.
Yes I agree
