There are some areas in the state where I reside, that have relatively constant power supply. It beats me, that the government put in zero efforts into improving the energy sector as it were.
When I wanted to rent an apartment, I searched for one in an area where the power outages were not too regular, it was number one criterion for me. But again, the power supply got worse over the months that I stayed there. It was usually rationed as two days on, one day off, that is we would have light for two days and then no light for a day, I loved it but it didn’t remain that way for long because the pattern suddenly changed—on the days we were meant to have light, they would supply electricity for an hour in the whole two days or not even bother to bring it at all, the light always developed one issue or the other, in a whole month we could have just 10-15 hours of light. I began going to a neighbor’s place to at least power my phone and powerbank, but it was only a matter of time—my neighbor began giving signals that he was no longer comfortable with the way I always came around, whenever he turned on his generator.
How long was I going to keep up with the light situation? I needed light to do lots of things—getting water, charging my gadgets and using my appliances became difficult as the cost of fuel wasn’t friendly.
People began installing solars or kept running their generators, but not everyone could afford that. The cost of installing the solar system is way out of reach for an average Nigerian like me, and again, the price of petrol was increased and made unaffordable.
As soon as my rent expired and it didn’t look like anything was going to be done soon about the light situation, I started house hunting again, searching for a better area.
In no time, I got anothet apartment, the area boasts of getting power from one of the biggest plants.
I’ve been enjoying a good amount of light since I moved in, but it's still too early to rate the place though. I use the prepaid meter and get about 10-12 hours of light every day! Imma wanna enjoy it while it lasts!
I always appreciate your comments and support.
