Human beings are always addicted to one or two gadgets that they own and somehow it takes time before they can dispose of such gadgets. This could be for various reasons such as that item was the first thing they ever bought with their money or it has great memories that helps them feel nostalgic whenever they see them. In my home, there are gadgets that we do not use anymore but for some reasons we have not disposed them yet. Normally in Nigeria, when you have useless gadgets that are bringing up dust in the house, we usually sell them to malams who buys such goods to be reused. Some of such gadgets include televisions, phones, CDs, DVD players, radio, machines, refrigerators and so on and so forth.
Well, one of the major reasons why people do not dispose of their useless gadgets is due to sentimental attachment they have regarding the item. In this case, some people are emotionally attached to these gadgets and find it hard to let them go because of the memories attached. For me, one of the useless gadgets I have in my Stead that for some reasons I have just refused to throw them away is my first BlackBerry phones. I would not categorically say that I am emotionally attached to the gadgets, but for some reasons they are just in the drawer. If I can remember correctly these phones are about 10 years old now. Although, I remember the Crave for everyone to use BlackBerry back in the days, but still, my own reason for having them is because I forget about it, it's only when I am doing a thorough cleaning of the house that I remember and feel nostalgic about them again.
Other gadgets that is useless now but we still have in our family home is this old four squared box television that existed tend to 15 years ago, before the technological advancement of flat screen TV or Smart CV came over. This TV is just sitting in one corner at the store collecting dust and for some reasons we have cannot dispose of it yet. but often times when we see it, we remember everything that encompasses its existence from the first day my dad bought the television and brought it home to when the electrician installed the necessary things to keep it running and so on. I even remember the first DVD player we got and the movie will watched on the TV it was an amazing experience that day.
In conclusion, there are still useless gadgets in my house but old and new and there are different reasons for having them around.
