Transportation is a means of moving forward from one location to so many others. We may not do much or know much if there were no means of transportation of human beings, goods and services.
Transportation movement can be through cars of all types, buses, trains, ships in the sea, canoes, Lorries, trucks that carry heavy loads from one location to another. Petroleum tankers that are busy conveying fuel, gas, kerosene and many others. Trailers are among the transportation agents serving humanity by conveying goods and services from one city to another, from one station, intra-states and all that to many others. In the olden days, horses, Camels and other animals were also used for transportations.
These services are everywhere and they are every day needs. We totally can't do without them, we need them. Now, in our cities, towns and villages in my country Nigeria. Transportation services are largely dependent on the population in the area. I can't compare the a pertain of services i got in urban areas as the same at the rural areas. That's to say, that the services are not the same because the population is also not the same.
I lived in Lagos State for so many years, i know for sure that there are sourge for transportation because of the multitude of people waiting for buses, cars or train to convey them from one location to another per minute and per second 24 hours daily. Unlike in the city of Aba, Abia State where i live now.
For example, in Lagos state some people leave their homes from 4:am to go to work from as far as Igondu area to Lagos Island or Lagos mainland for work on daily basis. After work, they will start going home again and can get to their neighborhood very late like 12: midnight or even 1: pm to eat very late, no proper sleeping chances before the next morning is for another movement.
This is only for those that has cought up with the bus that has accepted to convey them to their destinations. We are not talking about those wishing to get going. Many are still in the bus stop wishing and struggling to get buses (moluwe) as the buses are known and called in Lagos State.
Moluwes are very long, high and big buses carrying people from one location to another in Lagos state.
For me, it was a very terrible means of movement at all times by these reasons:
Moluwe does not calmly stop to allow passengers to enter to take their seats. Most times it will be moving gradually or even with speed while passengers are hoping in to take their seats.
Moluwes allow passengers to hang up in lines in the center of the bus if their seats are filled up with passengers. You will still pay the charges but you will pay a little less than those sitting down.
In Moluwes, pick pockets are all over the bus, you won't know when they have carefully, skillfully and quietly stolen your property, it could be your wallet, ladies handbags, phones, laptops or just name it, anything can get missing in moluwe buses without the original owner knowing it. Most people getting to when they are about to pay when the oconductor ask about their own fare. They may start searching for whatever they need to use to pay without seeing them again, some would have alighted from the bus before noticing that their property had parted ways from them. Pick pockets are very rampant in moluwe buses in Lagos State.
A very irritating situation that has been persistent in Lagos moluwe transportation system, from generations to other generations.
- Another ugly trend happening in the Lagos moluwe system of transportation is the attitude of the male folks standing up in the queue inside the moluwe buses; many of the male folk will carefully stand behind Ladies in the bus, because people are very many standing up, some men Will just take that opportunity to be robbing their manhood at the butts of ladies standing before them.
You know the bus is moving, people are shaking left, and right, some men see it as an opportunity to display what you can't imagine behind the ladies.
You will only feel that closeness to even know what they're up to. Immediately the lady turns back to query what's going on, the man will pretend nothing was happening. I know about it. That was one among many reasons i decided never to go anywhere with moluwe, mostly by standing, it's very dangerous.
- Traffic jams are the order of the day any time, anyday. People can be stocked in traffic jams for hours without movements. It's a time waster, you must get late to wherever you intend going, no matter when you left home. The population is outrageous, this causes so much stress to Lagosians whether rich or poor. Even in Lekky Ekpe axis that are reserved for the rich and wealthy, traffic jams has caught up with them too. It's very terrible to live successfully free from stress in Lagos state
MY PREFERRED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM WHILE IN LAGOS STATE;
I was always going everywhere i needed to go with Danfo buses. They also go to the mainland, island and all other areas in Lagos. In Danfo buses, every one has their own seat, you pay and sit down on your own paid seat but they were a little costlier than the moluwes. Danfo buses are routed everywhere in Lagos.
That was my best transportation system. Some times, i will join the canoe from Apapa wharf or mile 2 to Lagos island, this one used to be very fast. Before you know it, you are already in Lagos island ferry terminal.
Taxis were another easy way of transporting people from one location to another. You take taxis on a drop, tell the driver where you are going, he will charge you, most times very high, then drives you all alone to your destination. It's the best for those that doesn't have their own cars or rides, but very expensive.
These are the most peaceful of them all; the Aba system of transportation. As you can see here, no hassle, no struggles. Even in the streets people are freely walking around. I just prefer it to that of Lagos state, the land of extreme hustlers 😂.
Aba transportation system.
In Aba, transportation is very peaceful and very fair. There are no moluwes here but buses and keke, tricycles for movement at certain places. Drivers here will stop, wait for you to enter, you sit down, he will then move to where you are going, getting there he will also stop for you to come out then he will still wait for you to look for the fare to give him all in peace before he leaves. This is also vey respectful, and peaceful. The population is moderate, people here are not in dare hurry like in Lagos.
