Why We Hold On to Useless Gadgets: The Struggle of Letting Go.

I completely understand how it feels to have a gadget at home that you just can’t bring yourself to get rid of. For me, it’s our LG television, and that is because the screen is damaged. It’s completely useless right now, but for some reason, we still keep it. It just sits there, taking up space, reminding us of what we lost and how much it would cost to replace it.

Basically when we moved to where we currently stay, we had to bring the TV along. It wasn’t just an electronic device—it was an important part of our home. We used it every day, whether for watching movies, or just listening to music . But later the screen got damaged. And just like that, the television that was once a source of entertainment became completely useless.

The most frustrating part is the cost of replacing or repairing it. TVs aren’t cheap, and at the moment, spending a huge amount on a new one isn’t exactly a priority. When we first discovered the damage, we looked into repairing it, hoping it would be an affordable fix. But after checking, we realized that fixing a damaged screen can be almost as expensive as buying a new TV. So we just had to leave it where it is.

But yet, we still can’t bring ourselves to get rid of it. Maybe it’s because we keep hoping that one day, we’ll find a technician who can repair it at a more reasonable price. Or maybe it’s just the idea of throwing away something we once valued so much. It actually feels wasteful to simply dispose it right now, especially when we know how much it originally cost and even if it turns out to be completely unfixable, I doubt we’ll just throw it away. We’d probably keep it somewhere or find someone who might need it for spare parts.

It’s funny how we sometimes hold on to things that no longer serve their original purpose, simply because of what they once meant to us. This TV was part of our daily life—it gave us entertainment, comfort, and even a sense of routine. Now, it just sits there, as that silent, broken reminder of all the movies, shows, and late-night entertainment we once enjoyed on it. Every time I look at it, I can’t help but think about how much we used to rely on it. And now? It’s just a damaged screen that we don’t know what to do with.

Maybe someday, when we have the right amount of money we’ll finally replace it. But for now, it just stays right where it is without serving any purpose.

Thanks for reading.

Same thing is happening to us right now both our television at home is bad but we refused to throw them away

It's actually sad how that TV served you well but now, it just sits around. I can relate fully to the late night shows. Sometimes, you'll want to go out but due to the fact that there is a show, you'll wait for a while only for you to realize that you're running late.

I can fully relate to the attachment you have to that TV. I have such attachment with my phone. It's very difficult for me to change my phone.
