When Procrastination Costs You a Deal

Were you able to send the mail to your client? Amiable inquired. Oh no! I wasn't able to do that today, but unfailingly, tomorrow morning I will fix it. Very early in the morning the next day, Amiable, my upline in my real estate business, woke me up with another call, and she said, This is just a gentle reminder, Nkem, for you to send this important mail to your client who showed interest in our company's landed properties in Imo State.

I acknowledged and appreciated her call and further gave her another excuse while sending the mail should wait. I told her I will rather go see the man one on one for a better discussion instead of sending a mail to him. The funny part was how I kept procrastinating over this bussiness transaction, which I knew would give me a good profit. Would I say it is laziness or natural forces? Hehehe. The client in question was my former boss. I marketed a property to him, and coincidentally, he was looking for a property to invest in in the same state. He requested that I give him every detail about the estate, including the remaining plots available, so he can see if it's situated in a good location inside the estate.

Procrastination has proven difficult to fight and most times, it causes me more harm than good. It will interest you to know that I kept procrastinating to see this man for almost two weeks, and the very day I finally went to his office was the day another real estate marketers from the same company I work for visited his office with every piece of information the man wanted. I saw these marketers leaving the office environment as I arrived, and on getting into my client's office, he said, Wow, Nkem, I waited for you for a long time without success, and I needed to put the money I had into an investment before other things come for it. He continued, You see those two people, a young guy and a lady pointing at his CCTV camera? I just concluded the land investment with them, the same estate you told me about the other time but never showed up again. I wish you had arrived earlier or even before this day; I would have invested through you, but maybe next time.

Hmmm, I was so hard on myself listening to the whole sermon the client was giving me. I messed up big time, no doubt; procrastination ate me big time until it defeated me, but then the experience served as a great lesson to me and still does to this day.

I didn't embrace procrastination anymore but rather fight it and I started fighting it by first pushing myself to attend to every important to do list on my daily plan without leaving anyone for tomorrow. I would say that drafting a daily plan helped me achieve this. And not only did I set daily goals, but I also gave myself deadlines using my stopwatch to track my activities.

Secondly, I discovered that distractions were another factor that made me procrastinate. For instance, I will set out a task to do, and within some minutes into the task, notifications upon notifications will keep popping up on my phone, and I will shift my attention to know the latest updates from there, to social media, watching short movies, and comedies. All these usually eat into my time, and I will find myself procrastinating again. However, turning off some irrelevant notifications and applying self-discipline worked well for me on this.

There was also something I did in the past to fight procrastination, but I must confess that I am not doing that currently, but the little time I did it, it worked very well for me. It's about telling a close friend of mine about my goals and having her analyze my progress so far. She was a source of motivation to me then, and the urge to keep working hard was always there.

In conclusion, procrastination is capable of affecting our productivity level in a day, and most times, we miss out on our goals; hence, fighting it as it comes is not negotiable.

Funny, I was distracted two days ago and procrastinated. Actually, it was a movie I was watching. Church service was starting at 5pm, I'd planned to take my bath on time so I could go and charge my phone at the missionary home some minutes before service would start. Omo...I was so engrossed to the movie that I kept shifting the time to take my bath. Lo and behold, I forgot my plan of going to plug my phone before the door was locked. When I finally checked the time, I saw 4:12pm, I screamed and jumped off and started rushing myself 😄😄😄
Procrastination can still one's time, a big thief but we also must find ways to deal with it.

Hahaha 😂😂
U and movies eeh...detach urself oo 😂
Procrastination is a stealer of our precious time

I can understand you very well; even if I am not in that position but have so many things to attend to, it can make one move on to other things that they end up forgetting to do.
You are doing great nevertheless. I see your handwork.

Hahaha 😂😂..be whyning me oo 😂
Lol.. thanks fash for your warm feedback

You are welcome

Sometimes it might not really be procrastination. You have 3 kids, a business to manage and a home to keep. Sometimes it's just stress and not having enough time

Yeah...I agree with you but the effects of this delay hurt me badly.. lolz

Well, I guess a "next time" will come lol

Hopefully 😃

One thing about procrastination is that, it's so entertaining to the body, it gives the body the premium relaxation 😂 not knowing that a time bomb is grooming somewhere

Hahaha 😂😂...so much relaxation oo
I.love the word premium...lol
It can be entertaining until u fell into regrets over ur actions

I must say procrastination has really done more harm than good 😌, that deal lost was such a painful one.

Very painful oo 😂
But we learn and move

Procrastination will give you enough room to relax and in the end want to choke you with all that needed your attention.

Thanks for sharing.

I tell you..it's really a silent destroyer

Procrastination makes you comfortable gives you hope and the painful part you loose that same project. I am still fighting this guy called procrastination. I have learnt the hard way already.

Hahaha..it's a big guy tormenting most people
Lol

Procrastination is the worst habit one can have, and I am fortunate enough not to have it. You learned the lesson the hard way by losing an opportunity. In my eyes, procrastinating means you are not taking your work seriously.

Ahh....I am not taking my work seriously? Intishar? 🤣🤣🤣

My dear, I so dread that guy called procrastination. It is very difficult to see someone who got an award from procrastinating. Am glad you are more deliberate about your daily plans.

Hehehe..some people have gotten award on it oo 🤣

Loosing a business deal as a result of procrastination. This is huge. Procrastination has always done more harm than good and if not properly controlled it will keep causing more damages

It's a lesson in a hard way

Actually, it's well.
more deals will come your way

Hmm, the deal lost is quite painful o. I would cry in your shoes 😂😂

Procastination is really a silent destroyer. I have also learnt from its sting o and I'm still learning to overcome it.

Hehehe...I couldn't control the emotions when I got home..I cried oo..lol
Indeed a silent destroyer that needs urgent action
Lol

I was already laughing from the beginning because I knew it wasn't going to end well. You even gave the excuse of wanting to go see the man 😂😂😂

I would have cried and creewd my eyes out, that even the man would be speechless but I am glad you learned from your mistake.

If you gotten that profit now, I would have told you to bring it and let us share. Lol

Hahaha 😂😂... don't mind me jare ..I learned the hard way and I cried of course

Yes, it causes more harm than good

Procrastination doesn't look like a bad habit, but honestly it's a really bad habits that's cause for concern, most times i often procrastinate, I'd have something important to do, I'd keep procrastinating till I start working under pressure. Procrastination is the thief of time.
