IBT Survival Island - Weekly Update

Welcome to another weekly IBT survival Island update - exclusive to Hive.

In these weekly updates we will continue to provide IBT community members with an update on our developing PC game - the one to have Crypto interactions.

The fun continues - the new laptop is being built, but for now I'll keep posting from old crashy.

Further anim tests, physics tests and collision tests.

Finally after weeks of learning character animations in UE4 we are coming to an end. It is extremely exciting figuring out how to animate characters without paying big $$$$ or having to wear a motion capture body suit. Currently we are working on animations for foraging, chopping wood and chipping stone. We are also looking into sleeping, drinking and eating animations.

AI balance and... playability....is that a word?? is now.

For the next few weeks Its time for us now to work out how to balance the difficulty of the AI to the player, especially during those all important battle scenes. There is nothing worse than getting powed and wooped by an impossible AI or slaughtering them without a challenge.

That's it for this week.

Our Discord channel invite is open to any cryptonian here: https://discord.gg/Gr3kH9T
So jump in and drop us a line and help with some testing (score some tasty reserved tokens).

Cheers

Are you just keyframing then? That's pretty much how I do all my animation (aside from physics which are...uh...something else altogether XD). Those characters look like they're having a great dance party :D

More of a question for Roachey, but from what I understand we are using keyframes. For anyone who doesn't know what a keyframe is (I'll prob miss something here)... we first create a blank animation with the default stance of the character and move their "bones" to where we require them to be and then add a keyframe. Each keyframe is like a little series of movements when completed makes the character look like they are doing some sort of action or movement. With a little practice you can make movement fluent doing away with the need of a MO-CAP suit. (Motion capture suit.)
Physics are rag doll effects, gravity, character/AI hitting something and knocking it over or moving it to another location etc.

Ah I didn't know this game still existed. I thought it was left for dead on the steemit chain.

Like the phoenix IBT will be re-born from the flaming ashes of Steem-of-old...haha... its a fun ongoing project to bring it back to life using a full blown 3D game image. We had to choose a chain and it seems like Hive is going to be the best choice for a game.

Great to have you following along.

We will likely have a comp next week (we do an occasional comp to get in game ideas and if your idea is best, it will appear in the game).

Cheers

A comp as in competition?

Yeah as in competition :)
