RE: An overview of the ‘UNHIDE Hive’ project

List 2: Who currently works in the five key areas? (version 0)

This is a list of the people or groups that work in the five critical growth areas. This is my first best guess. Your input is super important—if you work in these areas but don’t see yourself, SPEAK UP!

1. Onboarding new users

  • OCD does peer to peer onboarding
  • TheTerminal is a friendly Discord space for new Hivers
  • HeyHaveYaMet
  • InLeo has custodial account sign up
  • Various communities around Hive likely have their own processes

2. Marketing Hive and its dApps

  • ValuePlan runs events and supports IRL Hive marketing (guiltyparties, crimsonclad)
  • LordButterfly has coordinated several initiatives (Hive Rally Car, Freechain Documentary, Vibes)
  • crimsonclad steers our official X account, goes to X spaces, + does a zillion other things
  • POSH project by OCD/acidyo encourages spreading of Hive content
  • ura-soul is working on a digital marketing proposal
  • InLeo has a large user growth initiative and new incentive structures
  • WOO partners with real celebrity wrestlers to help promote the use of Hive
  • Splinterlands and sister companies do a lot of indirect Hive marketing
  • The dbuzz team is working on a lot of partnerships in the Philippines
  • Lots of independent X efforts like documentinghive, hive_today, etc.

3. Anti-abuse efforts

  • Hivewatchers is the primary entity that steers anti-abuse
  • Individuals like themarkymark also have their own approaches and systems
  • Some of the bigger curators may also look into anti-abuse

4. Getting Hive listed on crypto exchanges

  • crimsonclad works another full time job networking and lobbying exchanges
  • Erm, that might be it? This space needs more help for sure!

5. Crafting DHF proposals for any of the above

  • As far as I know, no one “works” in this space and funding is left up to individual voters (and this is as intended, though some coordination around a vision for the DHF, oversight, analysis, etc. is sorely needed to begin to use it efficiently IMO—see List 1)
  • dalz does some auto analyses every month
  • There are various chatrooms scattered about where people can talk about the DHF (openhive.chat is the main recommended space)

If you don't see yourself / your community / your project—speak up!

about the 3. there is also Hive-DR
https://discord.gg/wXrdwGxC

it is a group where most independent anti-abuse people talk, some support HW, and others don't.

For 1. There is a new onboarding initiative called HOC
https://discord.gg/ZhUpxnDr

Another thing is that 1. can be broken by Onboarding, which is merely adding new people on the chain and also User retention, many users come and are unnoticed. HHYM tries that with introduction posts and tries to fish users for theterminal. Maybe something you forgot is the awesome initiative from pizza, headed by @hivetrending through the monthly competition, I don't see many initiatives like that to promote newbies.

https://peakd.com/hive-185582/@hivetrending/the-hive-pizza-monthly-contest-february-2024-edition

There is also @curangel, headed by @pharesim the main goal of the curation is to target newbies what I understand, maybe he can confirm that.

@curangel doesn't look for the account age in particular, no. New users tend to have very small payouts and practically 0 visibility though, and that's where we try to step in.

Thanks for clarifying! But somehow it is a help in this area...

Hey @pharesim, here is a little bit of BEER from @isnochys for you. Enjoy it!

Have you developed any approaches to anti-abuse you'd be willing to share / link? Not necessarily techniques, but things you'd deem unacceptable and/or what measures you take against abuse?

Also if you had to weight it what % of time/energy is spent on elevating new users vs anti-abuse?

Ask 10 users an you'll get 10 different answers I assume.

If we're talking straight up abuse I mostly agree with the parameters hivewatchers operates in. Not fully, the "original content only" directive is going too far imo, although I understand the rationale behind it.

I'm not personally active in any kind of curation any more. Due to the limited availability of free downvotes it's always only been a side venture, but it did get intense at times, especially pre-hive.

That is helpful to know, thank you!

The downvotes were deserved for sure

Maybe Hive front-ends could work on the new user experience.

  • "Here are some tips for your first post"
  • "Don't know who to follow? Here are 5 active bloggers"

No front end for now has a how-to tab...it could be interesting, maybe it is a recommendation for peakd and ecency and inleo

Amazing, this is EXACTLY the kind of feedback and information we're looking for. Thank you for linking the Hive-DR Discord. Are there folks from that group you don't minding @-mentioning here so they can weigh in as well?

I am sure I forgot and omitted 95% of the stuff happening, so thank you for surfacing all the things you did.

From Hive-DR? What I feel is like those western bars where different people come there to talk about anti-abuse specific concerns once in a while, but you can find there @antisocialist , @enforcer48 @solominer @stayten @adamada @dlmmqb and others. I think they don't mind me citing them, I hope =p

Haha they can yell at me for asking. My mission is to uncover as many initiatives and people working on them as possible in a short time, so that involves knocking on some doors, if you will ;)

@splinterlands and @dbuzz are doing a very good job at bringing in new users. These statistics are a month old. @arcange has stopped the daily reports for some reason.

@ecoinstant is making a lot of efforts in Colombia. This article has few of them covered: https://ecency.com/hive-189306/@ecoinstant/promotional-and-educational-hive-material

https://www.youtube.com/@EcoInstant/videos

The follwing are few tools that may be helpful. Most of these are open source.

Best of Luck!

Thank you for the input! It is helpful for gathering all these puzzle pieces. Good to see Leo up there as well in user onboarding.

I imagine the HiveSQL attack is why @arcange stopped the reports. Hopefully they resume soon (they may have already).

Cheers!

You're correct about the HiveSQL attack. It did temporarily halt the reports, but rest assured, I'm working on getting them back up and running.

Awesome, thank you @arcange, looking forward to seeing you continue the daily reports.

Hmm, may be beneficial for someone else to start the daily statistics for #HIVE account onboarding, possibly @dbuzz can do this if needed.

Are there any helpful bots for this? @vimukthi

Posted via D.Buzz

I don't know any bots myself. Best to ask people who have more development experience. Maybe @dalz can help as he often create statistics for HIVE. Best of Luck!

I can easily mention a Hive community that is doing truly incredible work on both 1. Onboarding new users and 2. Marketing Hive and its dApps, @hivesucre in the city of Cumaná, Sucre, Venezuela. They have a very successful program of focused community outreach, education, and onboarding, wherein they've onboarded over 60 local business to accept HBD as a valid form of payment for goods and services. They are a model or a template for what can be done anywhere. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

About 4.

I know @leofinance is working on it as well. Recently they launched Leodex on the Maya protocol. You can check it out here: https://leodex.io/

I agree though that more effort should be made into creating more similar opportunities. As this way more people could get to know more about Hive.
