Following the recent outage, I am happy to announce that my Witness server is back serving blocks and the price feed for Hive. The Hive software has also been upgraded to v1.27.6.
The server I am renting from Privex was also upgraded to use faster storage, although that hasn't yielded the kind of performance increase I was expecting - perhaps due to the shared node being loaded non optimally.
The only way I have of improving this is to run a dedicated server - as I have done in the past. While Hive prices are so low and while I have credit from Privex (due to the cause of my outage being police action against their servers) I will stick with a shared server, but may shift away from Privex and back to a dedicated machine in coming months.
HBD APR %
I have shifted my setting for HBD APR % back to 20. I had previously set it to 25 to provide an option for the community members who disagreed with lowering the HBD APR to 15 - that might allow them to vote me up and adjust the situation. Since no-one was that interested to do that, I've lowered it back to 20%.
I had some long conversations with other witnesses about this issue and I stand by the statement that we don't really have enough data to make a solid assessment on whether the APR should be 1%, 15% or 20%.
If the APR is to be used as a 'loss leader' or just a strong selling point for Hive, then it MUST be supported by substantial and intelligently designed marketing materials and education. Neither of these exist and so it is not surprising in the slightest that we have no evidence of the 20% APR helping to drive traffic to Hive. We won't have evidence for 15% or any other APR either, because the world mostly has no clue the offer exists.
My Future on Hive
It might seem, that like a lot of witnesses, I am not paying attention to Hive - since I rarely post. However, the reality is that I have been busy the last year, processing everything related to my Dad's death. My entire family has actually passed on within a few short years, unexpectedly - so I have had to draw my focus away from the internet to some extent.
However, I am still intending to build on Hive and in particular, I am waiting for the Layer 2 technology from @spknetwork to be fully operational. Once that's live I want to work with them to develop and improve the tools needed to build and market L2 communities in the wider world. I'll be doing this, ideally, while running my own community that is oriented towards healing, balancing & evolving humanity in an environment that respects free will. This will be a first for this planet as we have never really understood or respected free will on a large scale.
For now, I continue operating in the background - consulting on different projects from time to time and adding details to my plans for the aforementioned project and community :)

By coincidence I found your social network Ureka on the net and wondered how to make such a site .. a friend told me that one needs a lot of good content otherwise its expensive but servers also cost money and I would like to run a Tech-inform site for endusers -- safety, surveillance, programs, software and how to use it ,, ,and maybe alternative technology or "para"-tech like the pyramid-power and how to build such a pyramid to test it if it works .. such things -- so - how much does it cost to run such a network and how many members and content does one need that its affordable ?
Btw I was the CEO of a german "esoteric" publishing company in the late 80s and early 90s - of course today this hype is over but there are still a lot people interested in such subjects - it could become a success if you expand your subjects a luttle .. and maybe include a javascript chat running in the browser so people who are not members of Hive can also participate -- if this is possible, I dont know enough about blockchain-programming ..

Hi, I'm not sure if you saw the current version of the ureka idea that is at ureka.org or if you saw the original version that was built on completely different technology and had very different features.
The current version of ureka is based on the version of the breakaway community code for Hive that is a cut down version of the code that runs ecency.com. That code is open source and you can set up a server that runs it for very litte or potentially for free. The current version is quite basic and not so simple to customise - so you would really end up with a Hive powered website that is oriented around a specific Hive community.
The old version of Ureka had a lot more features because it was based on the open source social networking framework at elgg.org. It had a built in chat system and many other things that Hive generally doesn't have. I am about to publish a blog post that provides a high level design for a future veresion of Hive that bridges some of the gaps involved here.
The cost and affordability is always unique to the project as it depends on what features you want to include and what avenues you have to generate income from the site. The potential spectrum of cost for a year's running is quite large.. It could be anywhere from a few thousand dollars to a few million ;)

I found your little network with 11 members on the net with an ICANN domain so I thought it might be possible to run a network for example with unstoppable domains which cannot be blocked by governments ... not that everyone wants a criminal site who has this intention - you know how it is nowadays most of all here in the German speaking lands ... one German man was torn out of his house at 3 in the morning by riot police because he posted a burning EU-flag on a social network - others are identified and convicted for calling the vice-chancellor an idiot ...
Kim Dotcoms former chief programmer told me after he checked the site that one either needs a lot of popular content or pays a fortune to run the site ... and I thought since you have 11 members and you dont look like a Billioniare there must be a third way, thats why I asked ;-)
Anyway I am not a friend of this kind of blockchain which is dominated by fiatmoney because you can trade cryptos for fiat - like all the other cryptos .. I was one of the first mining Bitcoin - around 2010/2011 - and I remember that we were 5 people meeting in a basement every week to talk it over - what IS it really and what can it become .. unfortunatly most people dont understand the current fiatmoney system and thought when they are trading fiat for cryptos they can replace fiat ...well now cryptos are one more speculation asset of the fiat-system and not a replacement and the money and technology spent in mining is lost ... even there was a basic mistake in thinking that everyone has the same chance to make his own money because of the huge differences in electricity costs everywhere and the hardware that was necessary -- one said its fair that rich lands pay higher costs but Norway is a rich land but their energy costs are the lowest in Europe -- this entire system was doomed from the beginning -- some became rich, the majority lost or cannot even use cryptos for transfers now because one must sign up with passports and fingerprints to exchange some ...
And I am not a fan of the fact that every lol and smile and thumb down remains forever on a blockchain .. thats a waste of energy and maybe someone does not want to keep what he was thinking last year - the right to be forgotten by ones own will does not work here ... its like the tatoos with the name of the first love . whoever replaces this person later always has this name in front of them ...
And most of all its complicated for simple endusers -- all of these keys and "wittnesses" and votes necessary to be allowed to post and so on .. you can be shadowbanned more or less by those with much influence if they dont like your opinion so you have to write content supported by the whales and those behind those whales -- thats not freedom, thats typing to make them rich and at the same time spread their prefered worldview ..
Since Kim Dotcoms Internet Party was crashed twice althoug he donated 4 Millions but only hired tech people and a handful of second hand polititians (they made 499 votes in their second run in New Zealand) a few leftovers and me - I found them around 2018 when it was long over - decided to recreate it but in a more professional way - less national politics but internationally connected and most of all offering safety - own software but also teaching the endusers how to use existing safe software, building safe websites that cannot be blocked so they can learn, communicate and stay informed and so on .. and the national parties then can include their own programs .. for a while server hosting in Iceland was rather safe - now it starts there too with the restrictions .. and servers can be blocked easily ... and of course they are expensive when you run a network offside a static webspace ... we have an idea how it may work if we recreate a very old system once used by the Alien hunters called SETI-at-home if you remember .. with a few changes of course but the basic idea is good -- but thats a lot of work and we need money to feed our programmers and the beginning would be to have a permanent safe web presence -- how should people learn to trust us if we are permanently offline or blocked or they are identified and hunted by their regimes for a comment they made ...
Its a fatal circle - we still have good people, good ideas, we are ready to do something but the technical and juridical possibilities are tighter and tighter each year and the money is gone .. to get some donations - which we surely would - we need bank accounts (the regime can freeze but surely not in the beginning) and market places where people can use platform money to trade and only re-exchange when they leave the platform for example but to develope voucher-like platform money which cannot be prohibited or restricted like cryptos (to buy and sell them) is a lot of work and a programmer must eat and pay rent too ... so you see - I desperatly am looking for a beginning ... and I dont want to use a google- and amazon-powered platform like substack to tell users how to avoid Google amd Amazon ...sometimes I really want to sit in a corner. cry and forget the world outside .. .and so time is running out and we have - nothing ..

Well, I was born married to everyone, so whether they know it or not, they are all my network! I have some awareness in spirit and was able to connect with my Dad after he left his physical body - so I view these things a bit differently to many people.. None the less, it was very difficult and death is always a tragedy to those who can still feel!
