RE: Audiomodern Playbeat 4 - Trying it out for the first time

That seems pretty versatile. I've heard someone say that you should only program a drum machine with what a human could play on drums, but I don't see why it should be limited. Some bands have more than one drummer or percussionist so anything goes.

I've played with Hydrogen a bit and used it on some songs, but it seems not to have kept up with other options. It is still being developed though. Mind you, some people are still using pretty old physical drum machines with their limitations.

I was just doing an online drum lesson about flams. Sometimes you play in between the 'grid' and that may be harder to do on apps.

Hydrogen looks really interesting and reminds me of the old Amiga software a little bit. Flams, now that is a good question, can software do it? or hardware for that matter. I believe it can be, as on my Elektron Syntakt (Drum Computer), you can set micro-timing, in order for notes to be played slightly before the beat, so that can do it.

One of the guys from ModCaf built a 808 replica, a few years ago, using the shell of a real knackered one, some actual components and he restored it using parts that weren't quite original but can produce a very close aproximation of the old Roland machine.

There is a place in Reading who have a collection of old analogue gear, a kind of electronic music museum and from time to time they put on a showcase.

I'd like to have a play with some drum machines to get the feel of what they can do. A friend did have an old CR-78, but not sure if he still does. I'm not aware of any user groups around here.

Well, maybe we should arrange a catch-up somewhere in between yours and mine, I'll bring the Syntakt along with some headphones and my SP-404, as that has two headphone jacks for simultaneous listening. A power outlet is the only other requirement.

We could invite some other Hive people along.

It would be cool to get some musicians together and maybe jam something. I could bring something along to play.

Let's figure something out, I would love to make this happen!
