Hello my people, I hope you are all doing great today, a happy Wednesday to all of you. Today I bring you the editorial on this topic, who interprets it one of the best female voices of the era of the 60's and 70's, I speak of the incredible Janis Joplin, an icon of hippie culture and rock and blues music. I hope you like the report on this song which is the most iconic of her and her band.

JANIS JOPLIN

Theme:PIECE OF MY HEART.
Disc:Cheap Thrills.
Year:1968.

“Piece of my heart” turned Janis Joplin into a superstar. It was not for less; she herself put a “piece of her heart” in her magnificent vocal interpretation, full of fury and passion. The song in question was a composition that Bert Berns and Jerry Ragonov had given to Aretha Frankli's sister Erma, who had placed it in the R&B charts in 1967.

BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY

Barely a year later, Big Brother, Janis' last band, re-recorded it with infinitely more intensity than the original. Of course, the tremendous volume and the piercing psychedelic energy of the guitars and the rhythmic base of the band (Sam Andrew and James Gurley on guitars, Peter Albin on bass and David Getz on drums) had much to do with the transformation of this dark blues into a noisy and powerful piece of rock.

But undoubtedly the great merit was Janis', her bourbon-fueled throat-breaking, that spectacular display of pain and love with which she sang the song, her screams, her chilling howls, her feeling... simply indescribable. After recording it on May 20, 1968 with producer John Simon, it became part of the magnificent and explosive “Cheap Thrills” and launched Janis to absolute stardom, reaching the twelfth position in the top 100 and making it easier for Joplin to start her solo career at the end of that same year 1968.

Until her unfortunate death in 1971 this was her biggest chart hit, and it still sends shivers down the spine and makes the hairs stand on end today to hear this diva of the everyday unleashed in an unparalleled outpouring of interpretive delivery. How great you were, Janis...
