Matt & I go over some questions about SPK Proposal

Hive is a censorship-resistant base layer chain, complete with a DAO. The SPK network's goal is to fill some gaps Hive is missing at the moment. For the SPK Network, I'm just a contributor, happy to do my part to see this thing get off the ground.

The SPK Network could have been easily funded by a few larger stakeholders, but in the spirit of web 3, it's the story that matters the most. 10 years from now, having the ability to say the SPK Network was a community-funded task, no VCs, no large investors, just a grassroots movement funded by a community would be immensely important. You can't buy that script, it's a story for the books, and it's one I really want to be able to tell. Every other project is trying to fund infrastructure solutions with community funding, and we can prove that is possible on Hive. Since this project comes with no premine and a fair mining access to all Hivers, it makes for a great birth to combine community funding with a fair launch token.

I've supported many DAO proposals in the past, but this is the first time I've been willing to back it with my name and am willing to ensure the funds of the proposal are paid out; Matt & I see to it the funds are secure.

To address some points related to PPY and why we think they are a good fit to help build the SPK network:
We looked everywhere for developers capable, we have come close to hiring a few that could, even former a steemit core dev, but we could not find anyone capable of building the entire scope.
When trying to find someone who could build the entire scope, it quickly became evident at the cost, IE 100k just for "HMTs" that did a fraction of what we needed them to and would take a fair amount of time on its own, let alone the entire scope needed.
PPY team has the skills necessary; Bobinson is a well known, highly skilled developer lead. PPY team can do the entire scope at a fraction of the cost. This is because they are firstly giving Hive a great discount on the work being done. On top of this, they are matching the $ paid by Hive, meaning the task has been quoted at a discount of 100k, but they are charging only 50k for the work.
PPY/HIVE are both originally forks of BTS code; they share the same graphene technology. It is important to have innovation in graphene, as a rising tide raises all ships. PPY is a decentralized gateway focused chain, where Hive is a text-based app-building-focused chain. It would be great to have teams with resources that can help improve the overall graphene ecosystem.
PPY, being a lower used chain, gives the flexibility to make changes in a real time environment. We can build and tweak this thing in real-time while simultaneously improving a sister chain to Hive.
Long term support from the PPY team will only benefit Hive in the long run. Currently, Hive does not have a core team dedicated to cross chain communication; having a well funded graphene development team will only serve to benefit graphene technology as a whole.
Hive Sons is the first-ever graphene cross-chain bridge created. History is being made, Hive Sons code works now, and that was one of the hardest parts of this entire scope, and it's already done.
Lots of the work needed for the token system is easily built on PPY, lots of the code they wanted to work on anyway, this means the work can be done much quicker and more securely than starting from scratch.

We will be providing infrastructure to helping run PPY nodes for sidechains. Since running a node is so cheap and the utility ad is so great, we hope to see others want to provide support as well.

I meant to set the beneficiaries of this post to hive.fund, I will send the rewards there manually after payout.

Thanks for the explanation. I really think that this should have been the first step forward in presenting SPK. I see valid points here.

A couple more questions for you:

  1. If the funding is raised 50/50 but Hive is additionally contributing the valuable asset of community would there be opposition to build on Hive first and port to Peerplays later? Would this not accomplish the same “raising of all boats” if done in this order?

  2. Do you feel that side chain communication would dilute the community experience on Hive? (This question is for everyone.)

The main point is to build on Hive takes a special type of developer. We have spent so long looking for the right developers, and we just could not find any that had the time to take on this big of a task. So really, this is the stars aligning, where two teams that work on the same type of codebase have a common goal, and they have a full dev team and are willing to match the cost. So it really is a no brainer as it just wasn't possible any other way. Sure we could spend a few more years looking for devs, but I'm sure people want this tech done and out sooner than later, and Bobinson and his team are highly skilled, I doubt we could even find a better dev that would have enough time available to do this task. To be it is a blessing.

Cross-chain is the future; any chain that silos itself is destined to die out. Bridging only brings more traffic and more access for all.

Solid answer. So basically it’s a necessity at this point.

I appreciate all of your answers. I may have seemed a little brazen and sensationalizing in my critique but I was mainly playing devil’s advocate sprinkled in with genuine concern. I’ll be supporting the proposition now. Thank you for your time. It’s not much considering my vests but it’s the least I can do.

This is great and the plan looks good.

I really don't know so much about peer play and graphene.

Could you throw some light on it?

I believe hive has the community to make this happen.

This plan needs committed hands globally from what I understand.

And I think grouping the hive community into regions/groups I guess and following it up for a period of time.

I am willing to support to the best of my abilities.

I will start using the three speaks network from now on too

I have been on boarding for the past couple of years and will probably preach to people the need to use the speak network.

Your cat is funny anyways.

Keep up the good job

graphene is the code-based shared by blockchains such as Bitshares, Hive and PPY. Its built for speed. We want graphene tech to be continually innovated as it helps everyone that uses it.

Oh I get the point

Everything will be great
Hive is a great network, and with the new implementations it will give good projection for our hive ecosystem . 😁

Awesome right up and some huge moves being made even if I don't understand everything that you're talking about I do know that our future is looking very bright and highly... Optimistic!!!!

Thank you very much both from me and puppy dog we really appreciate it.

Very cool.

Great vid, is there a problem with your mic Dan?

ya noticed after upload, found the issue. hope it was clear enough for u still

So, peerplays is simply building a blockchain environment for others to develop their apps on? The kick is some of the new staking features that is supposed to help decentralize it further and make sure it's the active voices that are being heard, but not providing a dapp themselves to prove a usecase in the same way Steemit was created to do? (I was just reading the documentation for peerplay to see what it was about and didn't explain much in laymans terms).

PPY is an older chain that has had apps on top of it. But recently, they have added a lot of new tech features that are really neat and will be great to leverage as a community. They are a smaller chain not listed on many Cexes, so, therefore, they can innovate and add in new stuff quicker, so they can act as a test hub for trying out new things on a live network.
