Manufacturing Quality Has Gone Downhill

There has always been poorly manufactured items as long as anyone can remember. It used to be easy to avoid those items as word of mouth quickly got around. These days, quality has gone downhill not just on the items themselves, but the packaging as well.

To understand where I'm coming from, let's just say I'm not a breakfast person. I enjoy breakfast, but with kids I don't have time. So, I take a cup of coffee, a cup of water, half a cup of milk and a scoop of chocolate protein mix and put it in a shaker bottle, shake it up and drink it. That's my typical breakfast.

This is the protein mix I use.

It's nothing special. It gets the job done and doesn't taste absolutely terrible. You'll notice one lid is red and the other is white. The white lid is the original design, and the red lid is the new one.

You'll notice the red lid has a massive crack in the top.

Somewhere along the line, they changed lids and somehow changed the design ever so slightly. It used to be easy to use a knife or scissors to cut the seal off, unscrew the lid, and remove the secondary cardboard cover they put on all of the tubs.

With the redesign, however, it's a pain in the butt to cut the seal. So, instead, I now have to take the Exacto knife out of the kitchen drawer, slam the handle into the top of the red lid to break the air seal, and then unscrew the lid. As you'll notice, the red seal strip is still on this cracked lid. It's completely useless.

So, because the "geniuses" over at Muscle Milk can't make a seal that works yet is easy to remove, I now save the old white lid from tubs, destroy the new lid, and pop the old one on. It's ridiculous I have to even do this, but that's how far things have devolved when it comes to manufacturing quality.

Have you run into a similar situation where what you buy now is nothing compared to a few years ago in terms of quality?
